From 1996 my web site was hosted by netlink. Although I registered several domains like www.davidpilling.com if you typed one of these into your browser you ended up with a URL containing "netlink".
Often the netlink version of URLs was quoted in print or on web pages.
My netlink web site is no more. Any URL with netlink in, is now pointing at nothing.
My domains:
www.davidpilling.com
www.davidpilling.net
www.davidpilling.co.uk
www.davidpilling.info
www.davidpilling.org.uk
now point to new web space, and they will work as expected, in other words type a URL with www.davidpilling.com in and that is what you will get.
The web site is structured in the same way as it was. So if you need a particular file and have the netlink URL, all you have to do is add the file name and path to one of the domain names.
For example:
http://pilling.users.netlink.co.uk/free.html
becomes:
http://www.davidpilling.com/free.html

An upgrade of SparkFS is available.
Zip archives have extendible headers for the files they contain. This feature allows RISC OS file attributes to be added whilst the zip file can still be understood by software on other operating systems.
There is a bug in previous versions of the zip module. If the attributes of a file in a zip are updated without changing the file contents - for example if the time stamp is altered and the file header in the zip has the RISC OS extension as well as one or more other extensions then the header will be
changed in such a way that the archive contents appear corrupt.
This situation is likely to be rare, for example if you only use SparkFS it will not arise. However it is an error in SparkFS. Zip module 1.40 1st. November 2007 fixes it.
You can upgrade from:
http://www.davidpilling.com/sfs141.zip
Please note that this upgrader only changes the Zip module. If your copy of SparkFS is 1.41 then you will not see any change on the icon bar. If you don't have 1.41 then upgrade from:

The David Pilling Software discussion mail list is now hosted on freelists.
If you belong to the list your subscription has been moved automatically and you probably heard about the change some time ago.
However for those who don't belong to the list, the new list supports a web interface so you can dip into it without subscribing.

The major change is that Ovation Pro 2.90 supports Unicode. This is such a big change that news about it has been delayed until it has become apparent that the program is stable.
If you subscribe to the David Pilling Software discussion list you will have heard about the new version long ago.
Full details can be found in the changes files in the online version of the Ovation Pro CD.

I've updated the Ovation Pro for Windows CD. See:
http://www.davidpilling.info/cd/changes.html
for what is new.
Improvements in handling CMYK TIFFs appear in the latest filter pack and a new DPScan. Multiple processor support in DPScan also arrives.
Pride of place goes to two articles written by Tony Cropper on the art of colour management, contained in a new tutorials section of the CD:
http://www.davidpilling.info/cd/tutorials.html
Recent versions of Ovation Pro and DPScan have incorporated colour management. These articles may help you understand how to use it.

I've been asked for a version of Ovation Pro for Windows that can be used for reading documents. This is akin to the "demo" version for RISC OS, i.e. a copy of the program with no document saving but also without the time limits and prompts of the "try before you buy" version.
The idea is that there are Windows users that don't want to buy the program (hard to believe), but would like to read documents (or print them).
Anyway this is now available from:
http://www.davidpilling.info/cd/main.html
Note the warnings given, don't install the reader version on top of your normal copy.
The reader version for RISC OS remains available from:

I've updated the Ovation Pro for Windows CD to version 1.04. See:
http://www.davidpilling.info/cd/changes.html
for what is new.
The latest version of Ovation Pro can use ICC colour profiles for conversion between RGB and CMYK colours.
It will now see fonts which don't have either ANSI or Symbol character sets.
