After editing the button bar I do 'save' in the macros window and it does save the macros ( Ichecked by deleting the macros from the AutoRun directory and it saved a new file, but still when restarted the old buttons re-appeared. I even tried saving a new default stylesheet document but that didn't seem to save the bujtton bar preferences either. I have just tried it in the Windows version (which I will be registering at the end of the month) and it works OK there, after saving the macros the following startup has the new button bars. Speaking of which, in the windows version there doesn't seem to be a 'nudepal' tool - or am I missing it somewhere. The catch tends to be that there is more than one file containing macro definitions. So OP saves !Macros, but you've got a !Macros2 or something in the auto run folder. A situation not helped by Beebug telling people to insert such things - admittedly a long time ago now. >Speaking of which, in the windows version there doesn't seem to be a >'nudepal' tool - or am I missing it somewhere. Nudgepal. This is produced by Gavin Crawford. There is less need on Windows because by default, the ALT+Cursor keys can be used to move objects around. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. It would seem that you actually have to reboot the whole computer, not just the application, for them to take effect. -- JayCee From davidpilling-bounce@freelists.org Tue Aug 21 11:56:40 2007 Received: from pop3.demon.co.uk by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <1INRGA-2u1GPo-06-Cbx.pilling@pop3.demon.co.uk> for ; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 11:56:40 +0100 Return-Path: Received: from punt3.mail.demon.net by mailstore for flist@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1INRGA-2u1GPo-06-Cbx; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 10:46:54 +0000 Received: from [194.217.242.95] (lhlo=anchor-hub.mail.demon.net) by punt3.mail.demon.net with lmtp id 1INRGA-2u1GPo-06 for flist@pilling.demon.co.uk; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 10:46:54 +0000 Received: from [206.53.239.180] (helo=turing.freelists.org) by anchor-hub.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1INRG8-0002Bs-Vz for flist@pilling.demon.co.uk; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 10:46:53 +0000 Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id EE85C72CE53; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 06:08:17 -0400 (EDT) Received: from turing.freelists.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (turing.freelists.org [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 31284-06; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 06:08:17 -0400 (EDT) Received: from turing (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id C2EAD72CE71; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 06:08:17 -0400 (EDT) Received: with ECARTIS (v1.0.0; list davidpilling); Tue, 21 Aug 2007 06:07:36 -0400 (EDT) X-Original-To: davidpilling@freelists.org Delivered-To: davidpilling@freelists.org Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id 639EE72CE53 for ; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 06:07:36 -0400 (EDT) Received: from turing.freelists.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (turing.freelists.org [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 31134-04 for ; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 06:07:36 -0400 (EDT) Received: from anchor-post-30.mail.demon.net (anchor-post-30.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.88]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id 2F74872CED2 for ; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 06:07:34 -0400 (EDT) Received: from pilling.demon.co.uk ([62.49.20.172]) by anchor-post-30.mail.demon.net with esmtp (Exim 4.42) id 1INRFO-000G5G-1b for davidpilling@freelists.org; Tue, 21 Aug 2007 10:46:08 +0000 Message-ID: <$5WXqRAvIsyGFw2C@pilling.demon.co.uk> Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2007 11:45:03 +0100 To: davidpilling@freelists.org From: David Pilling Subject: [softwarelist] Re: OvnPro 2.77 References: <41a973154f.jaycee@jaycee.ntlworld.com> <6ef9ba154f.jaycee@jaycee.ntlworld.com> In-Reply-To: <6ef9ba154f.jaycee@jaycee.ntlworld.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=us-ascii;format=flowed User-Agent: Turnpike/6.02-S (<4T+r1rR+bkVQqNpwE9H6P2XkEQ>) X-Virus-Scanned: Debian amavisd-new at localhost.localdomain X-archive-position: 25 X-ecartis-version: Ecartis v1.0.0 Sender: davidpilling-bounce@freelists.org Errors-to: davidpilling-bounce@freelists.org X-original-sender: flist@pilling.demon.co.uk Precedence: normal Reply-to: davidpilling@freelists.org List-help: List-unsubscribe: List-software: Ecartis version 1.0.0 List-Id: davidpilling X-List-ID: davidpilling List-subscribe: List-owner: List-post: List-archive: X-list: davidpilling X-Virus-Scanned: Debian amavisd-new at localhost.localdomain In message <6ef9ba154f.jaycee@jaycee.ntlworld.com>, JayCee writes >There is only 1 Macros file in that folder; but the odd thing is that >when I turned my computer on this morning OvnPro started up with the >newbutton bar. I think it would be possible to write a script that automatically turned off the toolbar etc. whenever a document was loaded. A crude version of that might be to set up with detached toolbar etc. and position them out of sight. PS. But shouldn't (couldn't) they be saved in the default document that OvnPro loads when you double click on it - it works under RISCOS that way. I think the default document is in the !OvnResDir but there is no corresponding directory in the Windows version. I have saved a default document in the library directory and if I open that directory and click on the default document it does load without the toolbar and info palette. Maybe I have it in the wrong directory, where is the default document saved that is loaded when Pro for windows is double clicked? > PS. I suspect the only realistic way to do this would be to have document preferences arranged to be something like: (a) on; (b) off; (c) use default setting. If just a single bit is allocated to this preference, within the document file, then this will not work per setting, without having a separate bit flag which the program would have to read in as a separate exercise. Could get complicated... Nevertheless, there might still be scope for a /global/ option of "use defaults" -- i.e. for all such settings, rather than being able to pick which ones to set explicitly and which to leave to the "default" setting. Just an idea for thought, probably of no value but I thought it worth at least mentioning... -- John Ward in Medway, Kent - using RISC OS since 1987 Now using an Iyonix, an A9home, 2 RiscPCs and Virtual-RPC! Ah. I didn't realise you were talking about Windows. Putting anything else in there won't do any harm, but since the files will be ignored, it won't do any good either. > and if I open that directory and >click on the default document it does load without the toolbar and >info palette. Maybe I have it in the wrong directory, where is the >default document saved that is loaded when Pro for windows is double >clicked? Why not just open a new document (which will have the existing defaults), then change any settings you want, and then save default (from the file menu). If you really want to change the default document by hand, then you can. On Windows there are defaults for many files just like on RISC OS, and usually in similar locations inside the folder which OP is installed in. However there are then a second set of files which are specific to the current user and take precedence, these are saved in the application data folder for the current user. On my XP machine for example: C:\Documents and Settings\David Pilling\Application Data\DavidPilling\OvationPro I think the first "David Pilling" would be your user name. I'd be inclined to use "save default" from the file menu, and then seek out the default file in your equivalent of the above. I always regret that there is no widely understood short hand for explaining the locations of these folders on Windows. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Sounds like you installed the demo version. In passing I should say that the demo version won't save files, and the full version won't run if wrongly registered. In other words the RegData file does not control if a version saves or not. >Please tell me how to change this as I have open files that I cannot >save at the moment! This sort of thing happens to me - I make the demo version, and then edit a file, and find I can't save it. I have always had to scrap the work. I can only think of things like saving text. I think you can save stories as DDL from the demo version, so that might preserve a lot of your work. Printing works from the demo version. I came back here tonight to post my brilliant idea of transferring chapters between two copies via the clipboard - say you'd run another copy of the full version - but I now think that only works on Windows. You say above "I can't save any files". Exactly why not? I'm presuming because you're running the demo version - which will tell you that is the reason you can't save. But perhaps there is another explanation? You might be able to *save the memory contents - but you'd need to be a talented programmer to get away with that. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Mmmnn! On the other hand I do have my OvPro CD, and a short while back. due to a processor catastrophe needed to do a new install, it did install but wouldn't run, complaining it was too old or some such nonsense. Pasted text can appear in the wrong place (not at the cursor), the wrong text frame, or not at all. I have spent a few hours trying to track this down- and I can't, exactly. But I do now have 2 stylesheets, one will not paste into the main text frame when freshly opened, but the other does. So it seems to be related to something in the file format, perhaps with documents first created by older versions of Ovation Pro. The 2 stylesheets produce apparently identical documents, a binary comparison reveals minor differences in the bytes however. I can send these stylesheets if anyone is interested. Regards Ewen PS It would be nice to have mouse scroll wheel support built into Ovation Pro, without having to use !HID. -- Ewen Pring, St. Albans, Herts using Iyonix, RISC OS 5 http://www.timebus.co.uk/riscos/ From davidpilling-bounce@freelists.org Wed Aug 29 11:05:28 2007 Received: from pop3.demon.co.uk by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <1IQIyL-0Kxknw-01-Duc.pilling@pop3.demon.co.uk> for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 11:05:28 +0100 Return-Path: Received: from punt3.mail.demon.net by mailstore for flist@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1IQIyL-0Kxknw-01-Duc; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 08:32:21 +0000 Received: from [194.217.242.72] (lhlo=anchor-hub.mail.demon.net) by punt3.mail.demon.net with lmtp id 1IQIyL-0Kxknw-01 for flist@pilling.demon.co.uk; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 08:32:21 +0000 Received: from [206.53.239.180] (helo=turing.freelists.org) by anchor-hub.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1IQIyJ-0006kM-8y for flist@pilling.demon.co.uk; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 08:32:21 +0000 Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id DA2F773383C; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 03:53:40 -0400 (EDT) Received: from turing.freelists.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (turing.freelists.org [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 22873-02-2; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 03:53:40 -0400 (EDT) Received: from turing (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id D8AA57333F9; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 03:53:39 -0400 (EDT) Received: with ECARTIS (v1.0.0; list davidpilling); Wed, 29 Aug 2007 03:52:59 -0400 (EDT) X-Original-To: davidpilling@freelists.org Delivered-To: davidpilling@freelists.org Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id 54B6C733679 for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 03:52:59 -0400 (EDT) Received: from turing.freelists.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (turing.freelists.org [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 22639-05 for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 03:52:59 -0400 (EDT) Received: from moutng.kundenserver.de (moutng.kundenserver.de [212.227.126.183]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP id F1D2A73319B for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 03:52:58 -0400 (EDT) Received: from [88.134.43.4] (helo=bach) by mrelayeu.kundenserver.de (node=mrelayeu7) with ESMTP (Nemesis), id 0ML2xA-1IQIxW10SX-00026p; Wed, 29 Aug 2007 10:31:33 +0200 Subject: [softwarelist] Re: Pasting from global clipboard problem (RO) To: davidpilling@freelists.org From: Martin Wuerthner X-Editor: EmailEdit 1.42 Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2007 10:31:27 +0200 Message-ID: <71b9df194f.martin@bach.planiverse.com> References: <995bb9194f.ewen@iyonix.timebus.co.uk> In-Reply-To: <995bb9194f.ewen@iyonix.timebus.co.uk> X-Organization: MW Software User-Agent: Messenger-Pro/5.04 (MsgServe/3.35) (RISC-OS/5.11) POPstar/2.05 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Provags-ID: V01U2FsdGVkX1+5Fv0hyLiZJriV0IlWt+K7hEnYNKGC4Tu/NtR 7y1p2nodX84wMZJgZQL7iK04JJMbIXvF9DI8PtmQlYmWvgzGP3 eskvbOenk1SYhrXlWTrOJJVNn+eXqr6 X-Virus-Scanned: Debian amavisd-new at localhost.localdomain X-archive-position: 46 X-ecartis-version: Ecartis v1.0.0 Sender: davidpilling-bounce@freelists.org Errors-to: davidpilling-bounce@freelists.org X-original-sender: public@mw-software.com Precedence: normal Reply-to: davidpilling@freelists.org List-help: List-unsubscribe: List-software: Ecartis version 1.0.0 List-Id: davidpilling X-List-ID: davidpilling List-subscribe: List-owner: List-post: List-archive: X-list: davidpilling X-Virus-Scanned: Debian amavisd-new at localhost.localdomain In message <995bb9194f.ewen@iyonix.timebus.co.uk> Ewen Pring wrote: > PS It would be nice to have mouse scroll wheel support built into > Ovation Pro, without having to use !HID. No, that would be pointless. Applications should not deal with these things, that is what we have an operating system for. The thing you want to ask for is for mouse scroll wheel support in RISC OS 5 to be fixed so it actually works with all applications (which is possible as !HID demonstrates). The basic scroll wheel support in RISC OS 5 even fails with many standard OS components (Filer, Draw, etc.). Pasted text can appear in the wrong place (not at >the cursor), the wrong text frame, or not at all. In RISC OS, at a programming level, the global clipboard works like dragging and dropping a file into a document. Now I may have taken the analogy a bit far when I implemented it, I used the same code that I use when someone drops a file into a frame. The snag is perhaps in synthesising the "drop position". You're expecting to paste to the caret, OP looks where the caret is and then pretends you've dropped a file there. Normally this works, but there may be cases where it does not. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O.
