I have never actually seen a 1660, but this doesn't sound like how things are supposed to work. >do will crash the whole machine (Iyonix). What sort of crash? Yes these Epsons turn off their lamps, and as a result some scans have to have a significant warm up period. The driver should cope with that (and it does). However there has been a need to increase the time the driver will wait for. You can change this yourself. Below is a quote from this list from 2003. ========================================================= A few people have had problems scanning negatives/transparencies using my USB Epson scanner driver on the Iyonix. I guess the problem may also be present on the Castle podule. Anyway we seem to have a fix. Inside the scanner driver find the file !TWAIN.Sources.!EpsonGT.!Install load into an editor, you should see the text timeout10000 change the 1 to a 2, be careful to make no other changes. There are three lots of two lines, you only need change the two lines for your scanner. Older drivers may have less than three supported scanners. I suspect this may also cure a problem I have on my 1650 where the very first scan from cold can end in tears. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. New in this version; TWAIN - see Scan on the Applets menu. Windows Meta File support (.wmf and .emf) - this is "meta files light". I've only used the built in Windows rendering. So meta files won't work with direct PostScript output, there's no image processing and some limitations on transformations. I suspect that the large amount of meta file format graphics available will make up for this. I've added "Find next" to the edit menu. This is a typical Windows feature, although trivial to implement I think it makes things a lot better. I'm tempted to add it to the RISC OS version. What tends to happen is that you search for something, find it, do some editing, and then want to search for the next occurrence. The standard RISC OS approach, is F4 (open find) then F2 (previous settings), then OK. Maybe that seems natural on RISC OS, but in the Windows context it is horrible. It can now all be replaced by F3. Lots of bug fixing and tinkering. For example it is now possible to export graphics via the clipboard. Auto-kerning now works correctly. The problem is always where the problem lies. It could be in my driver, it could be in the Iyonix, it might even be a combination, or some oddity in the scanner. I'm always reluctant to blame someone else 8-) Interestingly there does seem to be some sort of a pattern developing. A few weeks ago someone approached me with similar problems with a 4870. A workaround is to generate a proxy image for the Artworks graphics. You do this on RISC OS in the usual way. The latest version of OP for Windows will use proxies for printing if it can't render the main image. This amounts to replacing the Artworks graphic with a bit map version, so has the same problems - large amount of memory used, resolution dependence. But it is something you can do with the existing tools. It's also much akin to recent additions to Techwriter. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Box 22 Thornton Cleveleys Blackpool. How can I convert them easily? There is a command line tool "lfstrip" which will do this, it's part of the AppletSDK available from my web site (http://www.davidpilling.net/ovationpro/appletsdk.zip) However it's tedious opening command line windows and using this. What I've just worked out, is that I can put a short cut to lfstrip.exe in my "SendTo" folder. (located somewhere like C:\Documents and Settings\David Pilling\SendTo) Then all I have to do is right click the file I want to convert, and pick lfstrip from the resulting menu. Only snag is that you can only convert one file at a time this way. However you can select a folder in which case all .txt files in it will be converted. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. There's a program called !StripIt which both adds and removes CRs. It is by Andrew Rawnsley of R-Comp. It handles folders of files very quickly and changes them all, just drag the folder to the icon-bar.. My version, 2.01, is 26 bit but runs fine under Aemulor. It came with HTMLEdit. What tends to happen is that you search for something, find it, do some editing, and then want to search for the next occurrence. It can now all be replaced by F3.

Hi,

When trying out Find, I discovered that pressing F4 had no effect.  Pressing F3 before <CTRL> F causes OvationPro to crash.
   Is it just me?

I have an Epson 1200S which works very well on a Kinetic. I found it more reliable on a Cumana scsi-1 card rather than scsi-2. I acquired a 1640S (actually as a freebee from Epson) but nothing I could do would induce it to work at all. So I gave it away and went back to the 1200. -- Martin R. This surely isn't the latest version. The version with the new features. The new one says: 2.75 (04-November-04). And DPScan 1.21 (22-October-2004). Maybe you had the old download in cache? Maybe you downloaded the new one to another place, whilst still having the old one. Which you used (of course by mistake) again ... > Another question - I have a registered version of OP - does its > registered status survive updates or should I re-enter my > registration number into the new version? It survives updates. Together with all *your* settings. An update finds your already installed OPW and only updates, what needs updating. Same is true for DPScan. Anyway, no problem of your kind here. And also not with the implemented new features as far as I use them by instruction. Also the proxy from Artworks -be it with memory hungry settings and big filesize- works nicely. Proxy can also be used the other way around. That is for a .bmp in OPW-->proxy-->accepted bitmap in OPRO. Same can be done with .wmf. Meaning .wmf in OPW and a bitmap (proxy) in OPRO - although something has to be done for the background of the image in the proxy, when the .wmf itself contains more than. David Pilling knows about that, so likely this will be resolved soon. Another step towards easily exchanging dtp docs (text, vector graphic, bitmap) between 2 platforms. I like that. There were some troubles with the 1200 which took me most of a year to sort out - something like black and white scans not working, and warm up problems. SCSI can be a tricky thing to get working. Yes, this is the policy, the version number stays the same, but the date changes. The file you download ovnproi.exe should be 1.43 MB (1,507,840 bytes) long. Quite a bit longer than the previous version. That allows us to distinguish the two possibilities, downloading the wrong thing, or the installation taking place somewhere you don't expect it to have done. So how long is it? The are possible explanations for both things. But we do know that some people have got the right version off the web site, and I've checked what is on there, so the trivial explanation that the wrong thing is on the web site is ruled out. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O.
