This can mean a click in the (first) frame and next (another) click+hold. In my experience, when you create a new frame, a click in the new frame is surely needed to get the cursor appear in the new frame first. Also in a picture frame a click (as if you can let a cursor appear) is needed, before I can use click+hold. Click+hold give a move icon, but only at the moment that I have started moving the frame. It can be moved the same way as in RISC OS. Also additional frames (added with right click). > and the > only way to move the frame is by holding down SHIFT while dragging, > the green frame outline appearing at some random position on the > screen rather than over the original frame. I guess that this is not implemented yet. BMP and sprites give more info, as far as I have seen. On Windows you can again do a long click + drag or you do a control + right click drag. > down SHIFT while dragging, the green frame outline appearing at some random > position on the screen rather than over the original frame. On both versions Shift constrains movement to horizontal or vertical. What you're seeing is correct, but given you're doing a large drag not very useful. I think you'll find control right click drag sorts things out. > Another oddity. Registered users of Ovation Pro for Windows can download the font installer from http://www.davidpilling.net/fonts.html, The fonts are; Bookmark - the Beebug equivalent of PostScript Bookman, Computer Concepts BookM or Acorn Robinson. Chaucer - the Beebug equivalent of PostScript Zapf Chancery or Acorn Churchill. Curator - the Beebug equivalent of Acorn Corpus. DPDings - an equivalent of Acorn Selwyn. Paladin - the Beebug equivalent of PostScript Palatino or Acorn and Computer Concepts Pembroke. SwissB - the Beebug equivalent of Acorn Homerton. SymbolB - the Beebug equivalent of PostScript Symbol or Acorn Sidney. Vogue - the Beebug equivalent of PostScript AvantGarde, Computer Concepts AvantG or Acorn Clare. Click on the font names to see samples in PDF format. Text fonts contain full set of the Latin encodings as found in Windows codepages 1252, 1250, 1254 and 1257 and have 4 weights (except Chaucer). They contain more characters than in the Acorn Latin 1 character set used by current Windows and RISC OS versions of Ovation Pro. However future Unicode enabled versions will be able to use all these characters. The Windows Character Map application (available from Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools or sometimes just Accessories) can be used to view all the characters. The fonts can be used from any Windows program. You can change the Ovation Pro font manager settings, so that Corpus used in a RISC OS document is mapped to Curator instead of to Courier New and so that Homerton is mapped to SwissB instead of Arial. DPDings is a new font required because the Selwyn font produced by Acorn to map to Zapf Dingbats for PostScript printing has a different order of characters. Other possible maps are Pembroke to Paladin, BookM to Bookmark and AvantG to Vogue. These will be especially useful if you are importing Impression documents into Ovation Pro for Windows. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. If you look at the original Ovation manual, my name is not mentioned, that is because Beebug were convinced I would never complete the program. We thought it would take six months at most, so when it took eighteen everyone was surprised. Anyway part of the fun was being shown Tempest and told "this is great, why doesn't our program work that fast". I have a style defined (ToC) to produce nicely set out tables of contents for a book (there are some hundreds of these - it is a large three volume book). Where I am looking at, for example a book section there is a separate document (chapter) giving the table of contents. In this document the page numbers appear properly with leaders (. ) right up to the page number at the right tab. In some of the chapters there are ancillary tables of contents for various definitions. These appear after a few pages of text; the ToC style is used but no leaders appear unless the 'title' is very short (just a few letters) - and even then they only appear up to the next left tab - not right to the right tab at the end. I have tried cutting down the second kind of chapter by removing all ancillary text - but the problem remains. If anyone has seen and cured this kind of problem I would be very grateful for help. I attach a small style sheet which contains only the styles in use in the ToCs (the 'indent' style -may- interfere, but the tabbing appears always to conform to the ToC tab ruler - so I am not sure! For the ToC style do you need the early left tabs? I'd be inclined to delete them just keeping the leader on the right aligned tab position and use different styles for differently indented sub-sections instead of putting everything into one style (if that is how you are working), eg I'd have 3 styles for this: Styles . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9 Applying . . . . . . . . . . 13 from menu . . . . . . . 13 by keyboard . . . . . . 13 Defining . . . . . . . . . . 10 Is the Line scope for the ToC style important to the way you work? I'd prefer making it Paragraph with a return at the end of each line. I'd also make the ruler explicit for the indent style - whether the same as the ToC ruler or different. As it is at present the indent style will inherit the tab ruler from whatever styles are applied before the indent style - therefore possibly inconsistent within the document. Later versions of OP checksum the contents of documents. If you get the above error it means the contents of the document have changed since they were saved - an example of how this can happen, is that the document has been corrupted on disc by a faulty disc drive interface. So you have a potentially corrupt document, and the corruption has occurred outside OP. What I'd do is turn off document checking from OP General choices. If I have a document loaded in OP and I copy selected text and then I paste that text back into the document an error message 'no current file' appears. It seems that if the document has been saved then the pasting works if done by CTL-V. If done from the main menu: edit=> paste I get the same error message but then there is a fatal error type 5 and the document gets lost. If the document has not been saved then the same thing happens but there is always a fatal error. I have notice this for some time, but until today I have always had saved documents and used CTL-C and CTL-V so the fatal error never occurred. It does not depend on the document - I just tried a new one with a simple sentence. using RISC-PC strongarm OS 3.7 -- /\ _ \ |==============| / / / \__\ |===================| | Rodger Davis | /_/ / / / \ | rod@argonet.co.uk | |==============| / \_/\_/ /___) |===================| -- To unsubscribe from this list, email listadmin@davidpilling.net with the words UNSUBSCRIBE softwarelist in the body of the message Mailing list provided and hosted by www.spellings.net From owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Wed Sep 22 18:24:08 2004 Received: from 127.0.0.1 by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <1CAAif-0006bP-8I-0006c7."pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> for <"pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> ; Wed, 22 Sep 2004 18:24:08 +0100 Return-path: Received: from punt-3.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1CAAif-0006bP-8I; Wed, 22 Sep 2004 17:15:54 +0000 Received: from [194.217.242.210] (helo=lon1-hub.mail.demon.net) by punt-3.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1CAAif-0006bP-8I; Wed, 22 Sep 2004 17:15:53 +0000 Received: from [212.69.217.32] (helo=smtp-relay03.x-mailer.co.uk) by lon1-hub.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1CAAif-0000UA-A1; Wed, 22 Sep 2004 17:15:53 +0000 Received: from [212.69.206.29] (helo=svr1.spellings.net) by smtp-relay03.x-mailer.co.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.30) id 1CAAhv-0003Va-O6; Wed, 22 Sep 2004 18:15:07 +0100 Received: (from admin@localhost) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) id i8MHF0p24942 for softwarelist-OutGoing; Wed, 22 Sep 2004 18:15:00 +0100 Received: from anchor-post-33.mail.demon.net (anchor-post-33.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.91]) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) with ESMTP id i8MHF0c24930 for ; Wed, 22 Sep 2004 18:15:00 +0100 Delivered-To: Received: from pilling.demon.co.uk ([62.49.20.172]) by anchor-post-33.mail.demon.net with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1) id 1CAAhn-000A12-0X for softwarelist@davidpilling.net; Wed, 22 Sep 2004 17:15:00 +0000 Message-ID: Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2004 18:13:51 +0100 To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net From: David Pilling Subject: Re: [softwarelist] no current file References: <00c001c496da$d6142d60$73f4e5d4@mypc> <4cf27f7780rod@argonet.co.uk> In-Reply-To: <4cf27f7780rod@argonet.co.uk> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=us-ascii;format=flowed User-Agent: Turnpike/6.02-S (<4T+r1rR+bkVQqNpwE9H6P2XkEQ>) Sender: owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Precedence: bulk Reply-To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net X-maillist: softwarelist X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-5.9 required=5.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_01,IN_REP_TO,REFERENCES,SIGNATURE_LONG_SPARSE, USER_AGENT version=2.55 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.55 (1.174.2.19-2003-05-19-exp) >I tried sending this to ovationpro@list.barnet.ac.uk but it keeps It's over two years since the list moved from there. >If I have a document loaded in OP and I copy selected >text and then I paste that text back into the document >an error message 'no current file' appears. I'm not sure if it is causing your problem, but if you have the NudgePal applet installed, then try un-installing it. It responds to events related to copying and pasting, so it could be that. If you are using NudgePal and removing it does solve your problem let me know which version of NudgePal it is. You know, I've spent months trying to find a RISC OS equivalent to Palatino, as it's the font used in the Puffin editions of the Fighting Fantasy books. I never thought it would be Pembroke, which is one of my favourite fonts and we've had since we got Impression 2! I thought the adventure sheets I'd knocked up in Draw using Pembroke as a stopgap font looked uncannily like the ones in the book. I've just knocked up a test page in Ovation, consisting of a paragraph from the book in roughly the same font size (12pt) and sure enough they're virtually identical! -- Graham Thurlwell.
