The problem is not so bad, the unknown object is in the OP DDL file which the TransIMP filter produces. If you go to the line number OP states you find the DDL has an addstyle line immediately followed by a remstyle - it is that style which is the unknown object and if you knock out these two lines the remaining DDL loads with no problem. You can get at the DDL by converting the Impression file by hand !TransIMP.!Convert This is a workaround, obviously I need to see what is causing the problem. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Aha, that explains a lot! Sometimes, when searching using "Find from start" and "All stories" for a string I /know/ is there, it doesn't find it, yet with a different document everything works as expected. I never suspected it might be because some of the text is in embedded rather than fixed frames. I don't use embedded text frames a lot, but they are often useful for short multiple-column sections in the middle of an otherwise single-column page, especially when the embedded frames themselves are not locked to the baseline grid but the text within them is. Is this bug likely to be fixed? It should fix the problem with missing styles (which started this thread), and by the look of it, it also fixes a problem with decimal tabs (relative to 1.04). John van Vredenburch mentioned deleting things and the number of the missing object changing - problem is that in a document every object (picture, story, style, whatever) gets numbered in order, so taking out any object is likely to change the numbers of following objects. This thread threw me a little, as it turned out the missing object (the error if you like) was in OP DDL, what can happen is that objects go missing in Impression documents, if that happens then some attention to the Impression document may help. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. This imports the manual file correctly. Except for one minor thing that has always been broken: One of the master frames in the Impression document has a 0.25pt border, which comes out as 1mm in OvationPro, which is quite a massive border... I know that you have to convert the borders to some other format used by OvationPro, but is there a special reason why the most used border type (the first of the predefined border styles) cannot be represented correctly? I save the converted Impression document out as a DDL file, then opened the DDL file in a text editor (I use StrongED).By comparing the DDL output with one for a document with a 0.25mm frame border I determined that the code for the wide (1mm) border is 'w 2834' and the code for the narrow border is 'w 709'. I changed the codes throughout with 'Search and Replace all', saved the DDL file and then re-opened it in Ovation Pro, where all the wide borders had been replaced by narrow ones. The advantage is that the original file is still there if anything goes wrong. One issue which has been tackled, is Windows Symbol fonts. Unlike RISC OS where all fonts are the same, on Windows there are symbol fonts. A symbol font has only 224 characters in it - as compared to Unicode fonts which may have many 1000's. Things are messy for code positions 128 to 159, whilst for normal fonts there is an obvious mapping between RISC OS and Windows character sets, this is not the case for symbols. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has Windows and RISC OS versions of the same symbol font which uses codes between 128 and 159 and how much they hate me for the current situation. The final OPW package will include versions of a number of RISC OS fonts, in particular Selwyn, for which there is no obvious equivalent. Glyphs like the fl ligature are not part of the standard Windows character set. They can only be reproduced using Unicode. Whilst Windows 9X [1] supports Unicode (badly) not all of its fonts contain glyphs like fl. So if they're not present this version of OPW emulates them. Another area of trouble is how do you perform search and replace for something like fl when you can't type it into an icon - because OPW is not using the Unicode Windows interface [2], even though it is using Unicode font rendering. This version lets you type in glyph names as {fl}. Quite a nice feature because scripts can now use names for glyphs instead of obscure codes. This version of OPW lets you enter any glyph in a symbol font. I might just have to change the mapping of codes 128 to 159, so use at your own risk. You'll find up and down cursor arrows now work in a number of writable icons - for example you can now scroll through macro definitions, and if an icon has associated "bump buttons" the cursor keys can be used to change the value. [1] Windows 9X means 95, 98, and ME. [2] because Windows 9X doesn't support this at all. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. The part of Sprinter that saves to disc has not been made public (it's the simple bit), the complicated bit (the dumper module) has been published on the ROSL CD's. So anyone who wants to could write a bit of Basic to do the saving to disc as they wish. I guess what some people would like is for Sprinter to not stick up a save box, but send the image to a given program. I have Quantum softwares TempDir installed, and I use it all the time. Take Pluto as an example use... In Miscellaneous Preferences-Path for Save Article. I have entered "" When I want to Save a Mail or News item out of a Pluto and bring up the Save dialogue, the path to the TempDir directory of the day is already in the Save writable, followed by the Pluto default file name. Thus: .ArticleOut Sprinter. I just want to insert somewhere so that it's automatically there in the Save writable when I call for a Save. Dave's comments make > me think he'd like it to save to auto generated file names in a given > folder. My own thinking is that !SPrinter could perhaps work like other !Printers save-to-file choices, which include a full pathname and leafname. It is, after all, doing much the same thing as (in particular) ArcFax, so it would make sense for this part of it to work the same way. For example, I have a folder called "Printouts" and all such configurable printout files (such as PostScript by default, and others if I need to save them to file on occasion) are set to go into that. It seems to make sense; and perhaps the ArcFax code for setting the filepath could be tweaked a little and "bolted onto" the SPrinter code without a lot of effort -- it's just a thought. -- John M Ward * * RISC OS computing since 1987, A310 to Iyonix * * Fully ARMed for 17 years! -- To unsubscribe from this list, email listadmin@davidpilling.net with the words UNSUBSCRIBE softwarelist in the body of the message Mailing list provided and hosted by www.spellings.net From owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Wed Jun 30 17:56:10 2004 Received: from 127.0.0.1 by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <1BfiIt-0007iP-Dz-0007iu."pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> for <"pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> ; Wed, 30 Jun 2004 17:56:10 +0100 Return-path: Received: from punt-3.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1BfiIt-0007iP-Dz; Wed, 30 Jun 2004 16:51:24 +0000 Received: from [194.217.242.210] (helo=lon1-hub.mail.demon.net) by punt-3.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1BfiIt-0007iP-Dz; Wed, 30 Jun 2004 16:51:23 +0000 Received: from [212.69.217.31] (helo=smtp-relay02.x-mailer.co.uk) by lon1-hub.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1BfiIt-0007DL-2A; Wed, 30 Jun 2004 16:51:23 +0000 Received: from [212.69.206.29] (helo=svr1.spellings.net) by smtp-relay02.x-mailer.co.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.30) id 1BfiIH-0002aZ-EX; Wed, 30 Jun 2004 17:50:45 +0100 Received: (from admin@localhost) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) id i5UGoSR16290 for softwarelist-OutGoing; Wed, 30 Jun 2004 17:50:28 +0100 Received: from anchor-post-34.mail.demon.net (anchor-post-34.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.92]) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) with ESMTP id i5UGoSu16284 for ; Wed, 30 Jun 2004 17:50:28 +0100 Delivered-To: Received: from omba.demon.co.uk ([158.152.58.5]) by anchor-post-34.mail.demon.net with smtp (Exim 3.35 #1) id 1BfiHy-000IVX-0Y for softwarelist@davidpilling.net; Wed, 30 Jun 2004 17:50:27 +0100 MIME-Version: 1.0 From: Jeremy C B Nicoll To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net Date: Wed, 30 Jun 2004 17:46:10 +0100 Subject: Re: [softwarelist] Re: SPrinter Message-ID: <4cc73e821aJeremy@omba.demon.co.uk> In-Reply-To: <4cc6fdf2e3dfs@ukgateway.net> References: <4cc5418722dfs@ukgateway.net> <8abf82c54c.martin@bach.mw-software.com> <4cc6fdf2e3dfs@ukgateway.net> User-Agent: Pluto/3.03h (RISC-OS/3.70) Content-Type: text/plain Sender: owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Precedence: bulk Reply-To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net X-maillist: softwarelist X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.2 required=5.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_01,EMAIL_ATTRIBUTION,HTML_00_10,HTML_MESSAGE, IN_REP_TO,QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT,REFERENCES,REPLY_WITH_QUOTES, SIGNATURE_SHORT_SPARSE,USER_AGENT autolearn=ham version=2.55 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.55 (1.174.2.19-2003-05-19-exp) In article <4cc6fdf2e3dfs@ukgateway.net>, Dave Symes wrote: > Sprinter. The thing you can set up so it will do must - like the word "Sprite" - be 6 characters long, and syntactically valid. He suggested ".sp" which would mean that if you had predefined the system variable "S" with a path value, the default save location would be a file named "sp" in that location. So if you do what he says, then *set s (which takes the value of tempdirworkingpath and copies it into a system variable called "s") this should work. Command line, command line! this is the 21st century y'know, not 1983. So what you are say is, I've got to write stuff at the command line, like *Unsqueeze Filepath to !RunImage. Well that doesn't work. Same result "Unrecognised Squeeze format. I dug something out by Darren Salt. !AppSquash, It uses the Unsqueeze module to unsqueeze things, except that it won't unsqueeze your !RunImage. Even in xpand mode. Pah Harump!
