They seem to work here. Although I'm running select/adjust on ROM I do not think this would be the problem. Try a re-boot, then run Ovation Pro only and see if that works. If this does then run other software on our machine until it stops working as it might be third party software interferring. I have rebooted but the same thing happens. Since the orginal post, I have found that most of my documents do iconise but Murphy's Law dictates that the one I am dealing with at present won't. When documents successfully iconise, they don't appear in the "Documents" list off the iconbar menu but can be recovered from the pinboard. The document that has been unsuccessfully iconised appears greyed out in the list of documents with "view document" and "discard document" also greyed out. When I close OP, I'm told that there is a modified document but there is no apparent way to get at it. I'm running 4.37 on a StrongArm RiscPC. And how long is the filename? If you save the file using a different name e.g. 'test', does it still refuse to iconise. In 1.73 a change was made to the filename system looking at the history file which might be causing your problem. The base file won't iconise. If I save it as ABC1234aX and then iconise, it works. Saving it as ABC1234aXZ and iconising fails. Having been brought up on IBM OS/360 (none of this modern /370 stuff 8-} ), 8 character file names are something I have had to unlearn but it seems a shame if the 8 character file name is back again. It seems again to work here. I created a blank text file and a blank OvationPro file with the filename 'ABC1234aXZ', both iconised. I even tried a 15 character name and that iconised correctly by truncating the filename to 10 characters under the icon for display purposes only. The documents that have failed to be iconised appear greyed out in the OP document list. The same process in Impression Publisher 4.11 yields the same result, with the critical difference that the non-iconised documents can be found through "New View". !Draw behaves the same. All the eviddence therefore suggests that this is an OS problem, perhaps in Pinboard 0.96. Time to try the bug reporting process. Many thanks for helping to run down the problem. The printer is a USB Epson Stylus CX5400. If I take a minimal A4 document (just giving the default frame a border), this prints out fine as normal. However if I try to print printers pairs or galleys (for A5 diary pages) then it looks as though scaling fails: that is to say 2/3 of the page comes out blank followed by the bottom left hand corner of the default frame at apparently full size (frame thickness is identical to its bigger brother). Is there a solution or workaround for this; I could redefine my diary pages as A5, but there's quite a lot of work in that. And there may not be any guarantee of success... Otherwise I'll take the time to track down which of the varying parameters above is at fault. -- Stefan Bellon -- To unsubscribe from this list, email listadmin@davidpilling.net with the words UNSUBSCRIBE softwarelist in the body of the message Mailing list provided and hosted by www.spellings.net From owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Tue Mar 9 17:02:54 2004 Received: from 127.0.0.1 by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <1B0OYh-00012U-GC-000138."pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> for <"pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> ; Tue, 9 Mar 2004 17:02:54 +0000 Return-path: Received: from punt-3.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1B0OYh-00012U-GC; Mon, 08 Mar 2004 17:28:55 +0000 Received: from [194.217.242.72] (helo=anchor-hub.mail.demon.net) by punt-3.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1B0OYh-00012U-GC; Mon, 08 Mar 2004 17:28:55 +0000 Received: from [212.69.217.30] (helo=smtp-relay01.x-mailer.co.uk) by anchor-hub.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1B0OYg-0002H4-RB; Mon, 08 Mar 2004 17:28:54 +0000 Received: from [212.69.206.29] (helo=svr1.spellings.net) by smtp-relay01.x-mailer.co.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.30) id 1B0OYI-0003TN-VM; Mon, 08 Mar 2004 17:28:30 +0000 Received: (from admin@localhost) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) id i28HSII01343 for softwarelist-OutGoing; Mon, 8 Mar 2004 17:28:18 GMT Received: from moutng.kundenserver.de (moutng.kundenserver.de [212.227.126.184]) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) with ESMTP id i28HSHW01337 for ; Mon, 8 Mar 2004 17:28:17 GMT Delivered-To: Received: from [212.227.126.155] (helo=mrelayng.kundenserver.de) by moutng.kundenserver.de with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1) id 1B0OY5-0003aH-00 for softwarelist@davidpilling.net; Mon, 08 Mar 2004 18:28:17 +0100 Received: from [62.246.5.69] (helo=bach) by mrelayng.kundenserver.de with asmtp (Exim 3.35 #1) id 1B0OY4-00085q-00 for softwarelist@davidpilling.net; Mon, 08 Mar 2004 18:28:17 +0100 Date: Mon, 08 Mar 2004 18:27:25 +0100 From: Martin Wuerthner To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net Subject: Re: [softwarelist] Ovation Pro does not print fonts in enbedded Drawfiles Message-ID: <05fd8c8c4c.martin@mw-software.com> References: <4c8c8c41e2sbellon@sbellon.de> In-Reply-To: <4c8c8c41e2sbellon@sbellon.de> X-Organization: MW Software User-Agent: Messenger-Pro/2.71 (MsgServe/2.13) (RISC-OS/5.05) POPstar/2.05 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Provags-ID: kundenserver.de abuse@kundenserver.de auth:e4772095be5169fd0e120a52273e9d27 Sender: owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Precedence: bulk Reply-To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net X-maillist: softwarelist X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-7.0 required=5.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_01,EMAIL_ATTRIBUTION,IN_REP_TO,QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT, REFERENCES,REPLY_WITH_QUOTES,SIGNATURE_LONG_SPARSE, USER_AGENT autolearn=ham version=2.55 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.55 (1.174.2.19-2003-05-19-exp) In message <4c8c8c41e2sbellon@sbellon.de> Stefan Bellon wrote: > When I have a Drawfile with fonts, drag it into some frame in Ovation > Pro, then the text does not print. This has been discussed extensively on both the Iyonix list and the DP list, but I do not think a consensus has been reached. FYI, it works fine here: RO5.05, OP 2.69. I just tried it with SPrinter. Have you tried it with SPrinter? That eliminates possible other driver issues. Have you tried printing to PostScript? Is the text present in the PS file? You may want to check whether you use SpecialFX - that is the only piece of software I could imagine that may interfer. No, with or without SpecialFX, fonts in drawfiles are not printed by OvationPro, either through the normal printer driver or through SPrinter. I haven't tried other programs yet (I mean, with or without SpecialFX). For Stefan Bellon: a temporary solution is loading the drawfile into ArtWorks and save it as an ArtWorks file. I noticed this too a few days ago, but I didn't get any further than noticing that imported drawfiles consisting of nothing but text wouldn't print, whereas imported drawfiles consisting of path objects and/or sprites were OK. I have reported on this before. It seems OK at first, but something must get confused later on. When I say 'at first' I mean before the Iyonix has been up for a long time. It is definitely only apparent on the Iyonix. It is ONLY apparent on OPro - I had initially thought it was a general embedded drawfile problem, but I am now pretty convinced that it is only an OPro problem. It is shown on all printer drivers, including SPrinter and Postscript. My prior experience was with the 5.03 ROM. Saving the drawfile into Artworks and reloading the AW file into OPro fixes the problem for the time being, but is not really to be classed as a 'solution'. My understanding is that the problem is 'state of RISC OS' dependent. So an example file that causes trouble on one persons computer, works fine on mine. ISTR someone who had the problem, found it vanished after he removed and re-installed some software. >> I have SpecialFX turned off for Ovation Pro. One far fetched idea. One feature of SpecialFX was for the old Caligraph (where are they now) printer, it moves font paints from high memory addresses to low. Only one thing which does depend on configuration is the point at which RISC OS starts allocating memory addresses with the top bit set (negative addresses). So just for fun you might try setting up SFX to move font paints to low memory. Personally I'm inclined to think SFX is more likely cause than cure. Chilling resonance... it was the text in Draw files that didn't appear on Caligraph, different memory addresses, to text in text frames. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O.
