The software works on all RISC OS computers from OS 3.10 onwards (thought we don't guarantee that it works on emulators). Adrian Look, of LOOKsystems, granted me access to the source code to make the software 26/32 bit neutral - so it's now working with XScale processors as well as StrongARMs, etc. New icon sets have been created by Richard Hallas (designer of the RISC OS 5 icons), so Font Directory should look at home on RISC OS 4 and 5 desktops. There is also a shiny new website, where you can purchase the software, download the latest releases, browse the wealth of on-line documentation, and ask for technical support: http://riscos.looksystems.org.uk/ The cost of Font Directory Professional has been dramatically reduced to £15 (the original RRP was £65). Upgrades for existing users cost just £10. The RTF loader was written for Beebug by Rob Clark, he vanished without trace taking the source code. I tried really hard to contact him. I did have a half hearted attempt at converting the object code, but gave up. I'm almost certain to write a new RTF loader for the Windows version (I've researched this and know about the resources now available which will make it easier). The two likely spin offs for RISC OS from the Windows version are a better RTF loader and an MS Word loader. OArtWrks is the applet that allows ArtWorks files to be used in Ovation Pro, so if you already use ArtWorks files in your documents then the applet is currently installed. Of course if it is not installed and you don't use any ArtWorks files in your OP documents then the Wysiwyg applet isn't really of much use to you. -- Gavin Crawford email: gav@crawford-print.co.uk web: www.crawford-print.co.uk -- To unsubscribe from this list, email listadmin@davidpilling.net with the words UNSUBSCRIBE softwarelist in the body of the message Mailing list provided and hosted by www.spellings.net From owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Tue Nov 4 16:55:50 2003 Received: from 127.0.0.1 by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <1AGewD-0004J0-Ef-0004Oc."pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> for <"pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> ; Tue, 4 Nov 2003 16:55:50 +0000 Return-path: Received: from punt-3.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1AGewD-0004J0-Ef; Mon, 03 Nov 2003 13:40:12 +0000 Received: from [212.69.217.30] (helo=smtp-relay01.x-mailer.co.uk) by punt-3.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1AGewD-0004J0-Ef; Mon, 03 Nov 2003 13:40:09 +0000 Received: from [212.69.206.29] (helo=svr1.spellings.net) by smtp-relay01.x-mailer.co.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.22) id 1AGevZ-0006ii-Bf; Mon, 03 Nov 2003 13:39:29 +0000 Received: (from admin@localhost) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) id hA3Dcs923678 for softwarelist-OutGoing; Mon, 3 Nov 2003 13:38:55 GMT Received: from anchor-post-35.mail.demon.net (anchor-post-35.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.85]) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) with ESMTP id hA3Dcfu23350 for ; Mon, 3 Nov 2003 13:38:42 GMT Delivered-To: Received: from south-frm.demon.co.uk ([80.177.26.219] helo=greatest) by anchor-post-35.mail.demon.net with esmtp (Exim 3.35 #1) id 1AGeul-0007Cd-0Z for softwarelist@davidpilling.net; Mon, 03 Nov 2003 13:38:39 +0000 Date: Mon, 03 Nov 2003 13:37:33 GMT From: Tim Powys-Lybbe To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net Subject: Re: [softwarelist] Announcing the Wysiwyg applet Message-ID: <929d944b4c.tim@south-frm.demon.co.uk> References: <4c4b43f551gav@crawford-print.co.uk> <311f7d4b4c.tim@south-frm.demon.co.uk> <82e0804b4c.martin@mw-software.com> In-Reply-To: <82e0804b4c.martin@mw-software.com> X-Organization: South Farm, Calstone, Calne, Wilts, England (no house here!) This means that I now have a use for the Windows version of OvationPro. The laptop has been set up with two profiles, one for use at school and one for use at home. The school profile has been set up to access the school network(dynamic IP addressing). The home profile has been set up for use anywhere but also on my home network(static IP addressing). I down loaded the trial version of OvationPro at school and suitably installed it and all appears to be fine. I then change to the other profile to make sure that the desktop is identical. I had to install into the second profile, this copy does not work, it gives me an error message connected with the exe file and wanting me to send a report of to Microsoft, which of course I declined. Has anybody else experienced this and found a cure or is this the first time it has occured. Are these separate location profiles for the different network settings and you use the same user profile (login name) with both, or is it different user profiles? Does the user profile you used when you installed OPro have administrator privileges to permit installation of software available to all user profiles? Increase the max picture cache value. Mine is set to 40M (half of physical memory). I am assuming here that you will get out of memory if this is exceeded. You might instead just get uncached operation, i.e. very slow picture rendering. If the latter, then this won't help your problem. However I have successfully installed software into both profiles, swapped to the other profile, located the program in the the start menu and then sent a short cut to the desktop with each program working correctly. I could not do this with OPro. It installed fine into the school profile and still works, but when I changed to the other profile OPro was not in the start menu, I therefore installed it again. This put in in the start menu and was able to create short cut. This installation fails to work. If you want to have more than one user then the correct thing, the easiest thing is to just copy the short cut in the start menu folder. Installing twice, would not do any harm, unless you installed into two different locations. I wonder what the error you got was exactly? - it sounds like a nasty crash, but then again it might be something like the .exe not being found. I regard this as being something that needs fixing. As others have hinted, and may have been mentioned in the past, OP will only install if the user has administrator rights - this is not something that can be changed. So install as admin, and then sort out the shortcuts. Don't install as humble user at all. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Its size is then 1862502 bytes. This will still not load into OP. It will however load with ChangeFSI which saves it to a size of 93082. This them loads into OP. This reduction in file size is a bit suspicious. You are certain to have lost detail or quality. The default setting of ChangeFSI when saving JPEGs is only 75% quality, which can reduce the file size a lot but affects the quality of the image. If you want to retain the full quality it would be better to feed the JPEG through !CleanJPEG to turn it into something that can be loaded into OvationPro directly. OP can only render JPEG's which RISC OS understands. RISC OS doesn't understand all of them, and as Martin W just pointed out there are tools that will tweek the JPEG (without a expand compress cycle) so RISC OS can understand it. Loading the JPEG and then saving as JPEG is not a good idea, each JPEG expand compress cycle tends to lose quality. Loading as JPEG and then saving as a sprite would be no problem though. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Copy the shortcut to the *All Users* desktop or All Users start menu. Make sure the user has appropriate permissions to read the shortcut or it will not appear. 2. Log on as local Administrator and do the above. NB Local Admin is slightly different to Domain User with admin. -- What kind of insanity destroys fields to replace what already exists? As I haven't had any negative reports of anyone having any problems (or any positive reports for that matter), I've decided to release some other utilities for applet writers. To explain what that has do do with anything: The Wysiwyg applet uses an external application to provide its window and slider bar. When a new value is made, the external task transfers the value back to the Script file side of the applet. I'd been looking for a way to send data to OPro from an external task for some time, when just recently it hit me that it had been staring me in the face. It goes something like this: Create a small script file that calls a function that takes the data as its parameter. Then Filer_Run the file. The only problem being if the SHIFT key is being held down when the file gets Filer_Run, as this causes the script to be loaded by a text editor. So, to get around that problem, I decided to send the data directly to Ovation Pro's iconbar icon using the Data transfer protocol. To allow others to use this method without having implement the whole Data transfer protocol themselves, I've done a couple of small utilities that can be download from: http://www.crawford-print.co.uk/oproresources.html First there's 'CallOPro' which lets you call an OPro function by running the utility with the function you wish to call passed as the command line string. This will wrap up the function (or functions) in a main() function to produce a small script file in memory and then RAM transfer it to OPro. The other, is 'SendOPro' which is passed a filename of a file to be sent to OPro's iconbar icon. The file can be of any type that OPro would normally accept when dragged to its iconbar icon i.e a document, a script file, text file, DDL, stylesheet and any others (although I can't think of any others). -- Gavin Crawford email: gav@crawford-print.co.uk web: www.crawford-print.co.uk -- To unsubscribe from this list, email listadmin@davidpilling.net with the words UNSUBSCRIBE softwarelist in the body of the message Mailing list provided and hosted by www.spellings.net From owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Wed Nov 12 22:40:40 2003 Received: from 127.0.0.1 by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <1AK3Vq-00077J-8M-00079A."pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> for <"pilling:pop3.demon.co.uk"@127.0.0.1> ; Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:40:40 +0000 Return-path: Received: from punt-3.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1AK3Vq-00077J-8M; Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:31:00 +0000 Received: from [212.69.217.32] (helo=smtp-relay03.x-mailer.co.uk) by punt-3.mail.demon.net with esmtp id 1AK3Vq-00077J-8M; Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:30:58 +0000 Received: from [212.69.206.29] (helo=svr1.spellings.net) by smtp-relay03.x-mailer.co.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.22) id 1AK3Vi-0001Jr-62; Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:30:50 +0000 Received: (from admin@localhost) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) id hACMUBW13128 for softwarelist-OutGoing; Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:30:11 GMT Received: from smtp.argonet.co.uk (centipede.freedom2.net [213.161.67.201]) by svr1.spellings.net (8.11.7/8.11.7) with ESMTP id hACMU9w13073 for ; Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:30:09 GMT Delivered-To: Received: from [62.188.146.65] (helo=62.188.146.65) by smtp.argonet.co.uk with smtp (Exim 4.20) id 1AK3Uz-0006P9-JR for softwarelist@davidpilling.net; Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:30:06 +0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 From: To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net Date: Wed, 12 Nov 2003 22:28:30 +0000 (GMT) Subject: [softwarelist] Tempory fix to tile printing Message-ID: <4c5067bf78robh@argonet.co.uk> User-Agent: Pluto/3.03h (RISC-OS/4.02) Content-Type: text/plain Sender: owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Precedence: bulk Reply-To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net X-maillist: softwarelist X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.8 required=5.0 tests=NO_REAL_NAME,USER_AGENT version=2.55 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.55 (1.174.2.19-2003-05-19-exp) I've just had a printer misfeed when printing out a rather large tiled poster. If you really want the tiles calculated again try printing to file with a Postscript driver, viewing the result in Riscript or Gview/Ghostscript and printing just the final page. It is probably possible to manually edit the PS file to chop out the pages you do not need.
