The usual thing with this sort of problem is to establish if it is printing a certain thing that causes the problem. For example there are some fonts that will cause a crash, odd pictures, odd classes of pictures like JPEG's. Pictures in non-rectangular frames, pictures with image processing enabled. I have been having no problems printing from OPro on the Iyonix until I had a test run tonight, having installed the latest updates yesterday. When trying to print a document, OPro raises the error "Cannot find a valid endpoint". I have tried four different documents, one containing only some jpegs I use to test or clean up my Epson inkjet, the other three were text documents. All give the same behaviour. Printing to a Lexmark laser printer over USB. Now, that's interesting. Before getting the USB working, I used to print to the same Lexmark printer over ShareFS to a RiscPC connected to the parallel port (printer has both USB and parallel ports), and have just tried it over ShareFS, and printing is fine. Going back to the direct USB connection (both "printers" are now active on the iconbar) the error message is raised on clicking on the Print button in the print dialogue. The binary to ASCII conversions are done by the SparkFS front end application. Other things are done by the SparkFS modules, so almost always can be done by *command. Further to this, I have discovered a bit more. Sometimes when using OvPro I have been getting "Application has gone wrong...". When I click on quit I lose all the iconised applets, such as page pallette, style, nudge, etc. This is when styles refuse to to cancel, even when directly accessing Style from Menu. When this happens I haven't yet worked out, but it might be connected to using a photo (jpg) in the backdropof th pinboard. -- To unsubscribe from this list, email listadmin@davidpilling.net with the words UNSUBSCRIBE softwarelist in the body of the message Mailing list provided and hosted by www.spellings.net From owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Fri Feb 14 15:01:40 2003 Received: from pop3.demon.co.uk by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <"pilling.1045234735:20:09025:312".pilling@pop3.demon.co.uk> for ; Fri, 14 Feb 2003 15:01:40 +0000 Return-Path: Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1045234735:20:09025:312; Fri, 14 Feb 2003 14:58:55 GMT Received: from smtp-relay01.tc.dsvr.net ([212.69.192.4]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id al2115732; 14 Feb 2003 14:58 GMT Received: from [212.69.206.29] (helo=spellings.dsvr.co.uk) by smtp-relay01.tc.dsvr.net with esmtp (Exim 4.12) id 18jg4d-0001gE-00; Fri, 14 Feb 2003 13:40:15 +0000 Received: (from admin@localhost) by spellings.dsvr.co.uk (8.11.6/8.11.6) id h1EDdlg06458 for softwarelist-OutGoing; Fri, 14 Feb 2003 13:39:47 GMT Received: from smarthost3.mail.uk.easynet.net (smarthost3.mail.uk.easynet.net [212.135.6.13]) by spellings.dsvr.co.uk (8.11.6/8.11.6) with ESMTP id h1EDdkL06451 for ; Fri, 14 Feb 2003 13:39:46 GMT Received: from tnt-13-213.easynet.co.uk ([212.134.22.213] helo=localhost) by smarthost3.mail.uk.easynet.net with smtp (Exim 4.10) id 18jg49-0004Jv-00 for softwarelist@davidpilling.net; Fri, 14 Feb 2003 13:39:45 +0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 From: Ian Hamilton To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net Date: Fri, 14 Feb 2003 12:56:27 +0000 (GMT) Subject: [softwarelist] Applets manager Message-ID: <4bc4a3d62fIan.Hamilton@AAUG.net> User-Agent: Pluto/3.01d (RISC-OS/4.02) POPstar/2.03 Content-Type: text/plain Sender: owner-softwarelist@davidpilling.net Precedence: bulk Reply-To: softwarelist@davidpilling.net X-maillist: softwarelist Is there a 32bit compatible version of the applets manager program? Both were written by Rob Clark for Beebug, and despite my efforts I've been unable to trace him - odd you might think in this day and age. I don't claim to use all these applets all the time, so I guess that I could remove them, but I just like to have them available in case, and anyway removal didn't ought to be the solution, surely? Funnily, looking at the code of the ArtWorks applet I have, I cannot see how such an error could possibly be generated. By the way, I guess the error really reads ".RmStore.ImageExtnd not recognised" (note the dot before "RmStore", doesn't it? The error you see indicates that the applet's !Install script tries to load .RmStore.ImageExtnd while the CCShared$Dir system variable is not set up. This variable not being set up is not an error, it is rather usual, even if you have the !CCShared directory installed in !System, which you are not at all required to have. Could you please post the lines in !OvnPro.Applets.!OArtWrks.!Install that refer to ImageExtnd? This is certainly recommended, but the absence of AWViewer could still not explain the error message Alex quoted. It seems to happen in the line referencing the copy in CCShared. CCShared$Dir not being set up is a rather usual situation, even on systems with CCShared installed. >From what I can see, we need to track down what causes the error. The IfExists utility in !OArtWrks should be 340 bytes long, type Utility, dated 15 May 1994. OK, so try the following after a power-off: Open a TaskWindow and type *show CCSh* *show ArtWorksM* What does it say? Of course, after doing this, you need to run OP to verify that the ImageExtnd error IS displayed. And, just to be absolutely sure, the error really reads "File name .RmStore.ImageExtend not recognised" (note the words "File name" at the beginning), doesn't it? When it comes to using software at work (Win 2000), I've found that any software that tries to modify contents in the system or program folders can't be installed. Self-contained programs (eg Kmeleon, Amaya etc) seem to be more self-contained and run OK. Hopefully OP will be the latter type. bye Gary __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! So nothing in the system folder. Nothing that Amaya doesn't do, but in my experience that does create a folder in "Program Files". As I see it, a proper Windows program has to do certain things like write registry keys or put short cuts in the user profile. It's a pity it isn't like RISC OS (used to be) where a folder on disc contained 100% of everything to do with a program. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Yes! I've done all the work using NT/XP. So my problems are getting it to work on the old W9X kernel. Last time this came up, people moaned about "why should we have to buy a new OS" because I was saying at the time it wouldn't work on W9X. I've thought of a reason, much of the trouble is that W9X only has a graphics resolution of 16 bits - compared to the 32 bit on XP or (most of) RISC OS. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O.
