So, I can't use the scanner. A double click on !TWAIN is all that is needed to make it current and accessible. The first thing that springs to mind, is have you upgraded USB on the Iyonix. You need a USB system from 24th December or later. Originally Castle were supplying this on the TWAIN floppy - I don't know if they still are. Check the Device menu in the TWAIN driver, I would guess it is defaulting to USB, but best to check. F12, and then *USBDevices or the neat little desktop thing from XAT, to check that the Iyonix is seeing the scanner. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. I got within a whisker of buying the Iyonix - even made the phone call, but then I asked myself what, aside from Ovation, was going to work on it without emulation? Maybe you guys have a quite different list of favourite or essential software/hardware in mind, but to me the following are what matter most: Ovation Pro - the exception: will work in 32-bit. Datapower - to run via 26-bit emulator (permanently) Photodesk - to run via 26-bit emulator (permanently) Sleuth OCR - to run via 26-bit emulator (for how long?) SwiftJPEG - probably to run via 26-bit emulator? I want to run Linux alongside RiscOS - who knows when? SCSI card would be no go, therefore . . . Scanner - new one needed (USB device) Back-up - change to CDs; junk my (SCSI) Zip discs RiscTV - do without (Irlam Instruments gone awol?) So then I asked myself, what is the point of buying this lovely new machine and telling it to pretend for most of the time that it's the old one? Will the extra speed and screen-modes do that much for the one programme that will be using them, Ovation? So I took a big step back! I have the 32 bit CLIB etc installed on my Risc PC and OP and other 32 bit apps work fine. I tried to send a fax containing a page printed from OP 2.70 and a scanned document using TWAIN. Both brought up the little window where I clicked on View to see them and OK. I went to the Tx folder and selected the two faxes to merge them. When I click on Menu ArcFax quits with a type=5 error. I tried reprinting the two fax files, but always the same thing happened. I reverted to ArcFax 1.19 without rebooting but when I printed out a fax it didn't bring up the window. I quit ArcFax and found the ArcFaxFix module 0.8 was still there so I RMKilled it. Rebooting 1.19 then worked fine again. I then tried running 1.20 again, but this time it did type=5 when booting and never made it to the icon bar. ArcFaxFix 0.7 was resident so I RMKilled that. Rebooting 1.20 was now successful and it loaded ArcFaxFix 0.8, but it still did a type=5 error when I tried to merge faxes. So, I'm back with 1.19. Any ideas about 120 and ArcFaxFix 0.8? I reported it directly to David and there is now a v1.21 on his web site! You can't mix the ArcFaxFix modules between versions. 1.20 forces the right one to be loaded, obviously when 1.19 was created I didn't know about the non-compatability. >Any ideas about 120 and ArcFaxFix 0.8? What does ArcFaxFix do anyway? Bad name, many people think it is some sort of bug fix. It's a module than handles the embedded commands {FaxTo: Bob} etc. It also handles some file processing. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. I have exactly the same problem. !Twain is in Boot.Resources, but I double-click on it to make sure. In DPSS, File>Select Source shows EpsonGT, but File>Acquire gives a type 5 error. I'm on the latest Iyonix upgrades, and *USBDevices shows the scanner as present, with its details from *USBdevinfo corresponding to those in USBdevs (also re-clicked to make sure). Just for fun, I ran DPSS on the RiscPC, straight from the floppy, then double-clicked on !Twain, straight from its floppy: no scanner connected, of course. The Twain driver appeared on clicking Acquire, and looked very pretty. Repeating the exercise on the Iyonix (also with no scanner connected) straight from floppy, there was several seconds floppy disk activity before the type 5 error came up as before. Hope this helps. The scanner works fine with the PC. I suspect we won't get to the bottom of this without some close co-operation. As of now my suggestion, is to find the file !TWAIN.Sources.EpsonGT.UK.Config Load it into Edit, find the token 'Device' and set that to a value of 8, for USB it should be -3. A value of 8 is undefined device, means the window will open without accessing the hardware. Can you now get the driver window open? If so, set the device from the menu, and do a scan (without closing the window). -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. As I understand it, NewsFind is the *only* application which is affected by the new 26/32-bit Shared C Library. But I'm not sure if it is any particular version: MessengerPro users are supplied with version 2.31, where as the latest is 2.32! Additionally, the author (Tony Houghton) may feel inclinded to re-compile it with the new tools. Does anyone who uses Newsfind want to ask him about it? Well, well: we seem to be the victim of a typographical misplacement (technically known as finger trouble). 'Device' was shown as -4; setting it to -3, the Twain window opens in DPSS. It's getting late, so I'll put off trying a scan until tomorrow, but it looks as if you've cracked it. Many thanks! In response to Castle's suggestion, the RMload ScanUtils line is already commented out in !Install, as it should be. Incidentally, when getting the floppies corrected, I suspect the directories !Boot.Choices.Boot.PreDesk.USB and !Boot.RO500Hook.Boot.PreDesk.USB should be removed, as they will crash the machine if the new !Run USB file is present, and I'd hate to have Mr Ballance making yet more 'phone calls. I must have looked at a copy of the driver talking to the Simtec card. However you've provided some of the data I wanted. You now need to; (1) Edit the Config file and enter 8 for the device (2) Open the window, use the device menu to set Castle USB (3) Try a scan. You may get away without (1), leaving the value at -3. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net post: David Pilling P.O. Box 22 Thornton Cleveleys Blackpool. Aargh! Honest, DPSS put up the Twain window when I tried it last night on the Iyonix, but today I'm back to square one. I've made 100% sure I'm on the right copy of !Twain by using the floppy so that I can hear it working. Whether Device is set to 8 or -3, and whether the scanner is connected or not I still get a type 5 error on clicking 'Acquire'. For good measure I've set LastDev to 8 and -3 as well. Presumably, other things I had been doing had affected it, so I've tried loading up the few applications I have on the Iyonix, to no effect (incidentally discovering that when Ovation Pro and CDBurn Light are already on the iconbar, Share FS refuses to load, saying 'Unable to allocate logical address space'). I had connected up the scanner and switched it on before powering up the Iyonix today. Could this have written anything to a file? And I was getting so optimistic.
