If I recall correctly, Martin W=FCrthner has also implemented such a replacement option in one of his modules. However, I doubt this will also apply to old documents with Artworks pictures (made with AvantG in default doc in Artworks) or for old Impress= ion doc's converted to OP format. I am too lazy, to investigate my own doc's. I know I haven't used AvantG myself deliberately. So, my solution is to have AvantG loaded to prevent problems for on scree= n display. For PostScript printing I have mapped the weights of AvantG with !FontPrint to Homerton weights. If AvantG is used in a file, it is treate= d as if it was Homerton by the PostScript printer: only a mapping, no Type3. mrs Tonnie Demarteau - the Netherlands -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Fri Aug 2 18:07:36 2002 Received: from pop3.demon.co.uk by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <"pilling.1028305769:20:01673:75".pilling@pop3.demon.co.uk> for ; Fri, 2 Aug 2002 18:07:36 +0100 Return-Path: Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1028305769:20:01673:75; Fri, 02 Aug 2002 16:29:29 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa2129604; 2 Aug 2002 16:29 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) id g72GUkr09522 for ovationpro-list; Fri, 2 Aug 2002 17:30:46 +0100 Received: from grootstal.nijmegen.internl.net (grootstal.nijmegen.internl.net [217.149.192.7]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) with ESMTP id g72GUhM09519 for ; Fri, 2 Aug 2002 17:30:44 +0100 Received: from padua by grootstal.nijmegen.internl.net via 1Cust40.tnt41.rtm1.nl.uu.net [213.117.0.40] with SMTP for id SAA16707 (8.8.8/1.3); Fri, 2 Aug 2002 18:27:23 +0200 (MET DST) Message-ID: <001401c23a41$a365acb0$4d01a8c0@padua> From: "Tonnie Demarteau" To: "Ovation Pro" References: <4b5175403drogersps@onetel.net.uk> <4b5b862d83rogersps@onetel.net.uk> <000c01c233e4$9e906b20$4d01a8c0@padua> <4b5e7d1d85tim@de-sig.co.nz> <002601c23886$2cb8b1f0$4d01a8c0@padua> <5UejopA8o$R9Ewyy@pilling.demon.co.uk> <4b5ee42213tim@de-sig.co.nz> Subject: Re: Append to File (was Bulk change etc) Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2002 18:27:55 +0200 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2600.0000 Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro On Thu 01 Aug, "Tim King" wrote: > In article <5UejopA8o$R9Ewyy@pilling.demon.co.uk>, > David Pilling wrote: > > > When I load such a document in OP, I get an error in OP about > > > missing fonts and OP asks me, what I want. > > > Maybe this is an angle for me to investigate... > > A bit more checking with the simplest of docs ( only Homerton > used)... Loading fonts by directories with !FontsPlus. OP has available what is needed (and even a lot more) As long as fonts are present - no matter what fonts in use, Append to file works. I can drop several OP files at once, or add these one by one. I can do another print-job (print to another ps file) and switch back to the 'Append' file and append new docs. Until ... an OP file with a bigger page-size set in the file than the page size choosen in !Printers is dropped in the queue. Again, OP can 'ask' permission to crop. Still with !Printers (with append to file active), I can load such a document, set the correct scale setting, save file. Drop this file again on !Printers, and it nicely gets added to the ps file ... I have dropped all kinds of OP files with all kinds of fonts and pictures and pages sizes and filled backgrounds. Including 2 chapters (01 and 02) of the OP manual. Also files with JPEGs and 16bpp and 32bpp sprites. At the certain point I stopped (52 pages) and made a pdf out of it with RiScript Pro. At that point I had > 200 fonts loaded, from which 22 where used in the resulting pdf (2866KB) of 52 pages. This pdf displays also nicely in Acrobat. No problem. Nothing special configured in OP. Nothing special in !Printers. Applets in OP: !Arrange !Clipbrds !ColPal !ColSupp !Expert !Fill !Fluff !FontList !Grabber !HTMLinks !Imposit !IncSave !JoinLine !KSelect !Ligature !MPairs !NewFrame !NudgePal !OArtWrks !OEPS !OPCA !Ovation1 !PageSize !PastePos !POBar !SRWE !Statnry !StylePal !TextPal !WordWrks > However, it still doesn't append. The error this time is "File is > already open". Checking, the *only* files that are open are Homerton > and Trinity outlines and intmetrics. I only can get this error, when I have loaded a ps file in RiScript and try to print to that same ps file. And this error isn't an OP error. So, as long as fonts are present and as long the page size setting is within the page size as configured in !Printers, I can append and append and append ... by dropping OP files on the printers queue. When it doesn't work or halts, this is due to OP 'trying' to ask me (not visible for me), what I expect OP to do. Since no window is open, no (error) messages or questions ar opened. When I had an A5 portrait document with A4 landscape centre spread I created the main document with blank pages in the middle, a separate document for the centre spread. Printing to PS from OPro (documents open) with Append to file I think I changed the paper size in !Printers between sections and the resulting PS file made a PDF as I wanted (throught Ghostscript). I think we discussed this here in late May/early June this year. I have a 60 A4 page document which I am ready to go to press with. It is being printed on an indigo digital press. I am therefore running off a colour postscript file of the job. The problem is that running off all fronts creates a PS file of 800Mb! I am also having memory problems it seems when printing and I can't establish which page is causing it to fall over! The main problem is with Acorn's postscript driver which doesn't support transparency in colour postscript files. This means you have to be careful when using bitmaps on top of each other. I have also had problems with 8bit bitmaps. Print results are good, difficult to tell from litho on some jobs though the coulour matching is more dificult. Give me a shout if you want any more info. Okay Guv! I fess up, I've have OvPro working on VA5K. It works okay, quite fast... I'm still awaiting the true PC version though... It starts up okay, works okay, the menu button works on the icon bar menu or within OvPro. Perhaps I installed it differently. My PCs CD drive will *not* read the OvPro CD. (But read the PS Note). I have the PC and the SARPC connected via a Zip drive and a switch box. OvPro CD in SARPC, copy OvationPro/Zip archive to a DOS formatted Zip disk. Run VA5K on the PC, click on the Zip drive icon on the icon bar, double click the OvPro/Zip icon (Sorry I have SparkFS installed on the VA5K as well), this opens the archive, drag to directory where it'll reside. Run... Bob's me wotsit. I also transferred the upgrade archive on the same Zip disk... Freshened up the 2.60 CD version to 2.67. Okay Guv!
I fess u= p, I've=20 have OvPro working on VA5K.
It works okay, quite fast...
I'm = still=20 awaiting the true PC version though...

It starts up okay, wo= rks=20 okay, the menu button works on the icon bar menu

Perhaps I installed it differently.
My PCs CD driv= e will=20 *not* read the OvPro CD. (But read the PS Note).

I have the = PC and=20 the SARPC connected via a Zip drive and a switch box.
OvPro CD i= n=20 SARPC, copy OvationPro/Zip archive to a DOS formatted Zip disk.

well), this opens the archive, drag to directory where i= t'll=20 reside.
Run... Bob's me wotsit.

I also transferred the up= grade=20 archive on the same Zip disk... Freshened
up the 2.60 CD version= to=20 2.67.

I've got Ovation Pro working with VA. You have to transfer the files in a zip file to preserve the filetypes, but otherwise no problem. Make sure the zip file is copied to a drive under HostFS on the PC and not to a folder in the PC domain. Unzip it under RISC OS and it will install fine. A quick check to see if you have gone wrong: look inside !OvnPro and make sure the files aren't upper case and with /TXT extensions. If they are, it won't run and you unzipped or copied from PC to RISC OS. Dennis G [Snip] Hi Dennis, Might I suggest in the nicest possible way, you start again. Doing it the long hand way... Run VA5K Double click the Harddisc4 drive icon. In the Filer window that opens create a new directory "Temp" Check you have a copy of SparkPlug or similar on HD4. (It'll be in the "Filing" directory). maybe like me you've installed SparkFS...you could use that. Shut down VA5K Go to the PC side using the filer, possibly Windows Explorer, find the VirtualA5000 directory and open it up. Open up the Hardisc4 directory, then the Temp directory. Drag the OvationPro archive (unopened) from the OvPro CD to the opened Temp directory. Restart your PC. Run VA5K. Go to the HD4 Temp directory, unarchive the OvationPro archive to where ever you want it on Hardisc4. That should be it. Cheers Dave Ps: However it is possible if you know how, to have a CD drive Icon on the VA5K Iconbar and access the OvPro CD directly from there. If you want to do that (As well as the HD4 icon I have workable CD drive, floppy drive and Zip drive icons on the Icon bar), see page 55 of the July 2002 issue of Archive magazine, "Virtual A5000+ floppy and CD drives" by Gerald Fitton. It's quite straight forward to do and makes data transfer between RO and VA5K a lot easier. I start with Word documents and find disentangling footnotes from them difficult. By trial and error the most painless route I have found is: Load Word file into Easiwriter. Convert footnotes into endnotes (Misc>Footnotes>End of Document) Save out as HTML Load HTML back into Easiwriter. Save out as RTF. Load this file into OvPro and the footnotes are now in a block at the end of the document. This process converts double returns into single returns, adds a 2pt 'space after' after each para and leaves the footnote numbers surrounded by square brackets which will need editting out. I then construct the document with frames at the bottom of each page, paste the body of footnotes into these frames and flow them through the document. This way I can control the footnotes and ensure that they appear where I want them. -- William Lack --------------------- williamlack@clara.net County Series: http://home.clara.net/williamlack/index.htm -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Tue Aug 13 21:10:20 2002 Received: from pop3.demon.co.uk by pilling.demon.co.uk with POP3 id <"pilling.1028570204:10:22517:63".pilling@pop3.demon.co.uk> for ; Tue, 13 Aug 2002 21:10:20 +0100 Return-Path: Received: from punt-1.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1028570204:10:22517:63; Mon, 05 Aug 2002 17:56:44 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-1.mail.demon.net id aa1022480; 5 Aug 2002 17:56 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) id g75I0MD15025 for ovationpro-list; Mon, 5 Aug 2002 19:00:23 +0100 Received: from mail.tele2.co.uk (dellboy.tele2.co.uk [212.19.64.20]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) with ESMTP id g75I0KM15021 for ; Mon, 5 Aug 2002 19:00:20 +0100 Received: from djg (wireless-073-013.tele2.co.uk [212.19.73.13]) by mail.tele2.co.uk (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7224740012 for ; Mon, 5 Aug 2002 18:52:26 +0100 (BST) MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-Id: <3D4EB944.000011.37571@djg.djg.tele2.net.uk> Date: Mon, 5 Aug 2002 18:43:32 +0100 (GMT Daylight Time) Content-Type: Text/Plain X-Mailer: IncrediMail 2001 (1750710) From: "Dennis Golding" References: <4b61435685w-mcnee@argonet.co.uk> X-FID: FLAVOR00-NONE-0000-0000-000000000000 X-FVER: 2.0 X-CNT: ; X-Priority: 3 To: Subject: Re: OvnPro and Virtual A5000 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-MIME-Autoconverted: from quoted-printable to 8bit by omega.barnet.ac.uk id g75I0KM15022 Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro -------Original Message------- From: Date: Monday, August 05, 2002 14:55:27 To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Subject: OvnPro and Virtual A5000 Umm...is it just me or has something went wrong with Dennis' quoting? I for one would prefer that messages sent to this list are plain text and attachments are there (if at all) to demonstrate or solve a problem instead of being message bloat. I have achieved partial success. After reading through a few past Archive mags, I created a RAM disc and unpacked the OVPRO application into that. It booted ok with no problems. So, I created another harddisc(5) and unpacked OVPRO into that - problems back again! In the VA5K manual there is mention of creating an ADFS 'harddisc' but this was only in restricted versions and certainly not in mine. So, unless anyone else has an answer, I'd like to close this thread and go back to VA and ask why it works in a RAM disc and not on a HardDisc. I have now succeeded in printing a satisfactory print, by clicking Menu on the printer icon, going into Edit paper sizes, and changing the L and R margins. Initially I re-set them to 0. Printing then produced sheets with a very narrow (4mm) white margin R and L. The important change was that now NO PARTS OF THE LETTERS were missing. Next I changed the R margin to 15mm, and printed again. When i had cut off the L margin I then had enough blank R margin to use gum and stick the 4 sheets together side by side, and the text married up perfectly. The printer by the way is a Canon BJ200ex, using Computer Concepts Turbo-Drivers. Thank you to David Pilling, Anthony Hilton, and Nick Kaijaks for helpful comments. Now i must remember to re-set those margins before I do anything else....! Hi Dave, Thanks for that, however I've started again seven times and, using your excellent method, eight times. Always the same error. I do have the CD drive Icon on the VA5K Iconbar and each time I've dragged the OP archive onto the RPC hd4. This time I followed your instructions to the letter but still the same fault. I have downloaded DP's v2.26 of Sparkplug to unpack but makes no difference. I've tried !ZipEE included with VA5K - even worse. I've turned off my virus checker in case that caused a problem. No difference. Just to follow what else I have tried. - Click on the VA CD icon - it tries to run the !Runme file which of course it can't. - I drag the OvationPro archive from CD to HD4. - Boot !Sparkplug - Drag the archive to !Sparkplug - Drag the DavidPilling directory to hd4 There is a directory clash with the web site app! So I open DavidPilling and just drag the OvationPro directory to hd4 which transfers without error. But when d/click on !OvnPro, up comes the error 'unknown identifier: DOTTED' Finally, I loaded OvnPro from the CD onto my office RPC (which worked ok) then printed out full detail displays of each directory and compared them with those on my home pc with VA5K. They were identical with only a few access differences so I made them all owner read/write. I also shift/double clicked every file to check that there was something in it. Sadly, error is still there. This must be something simple but I'm at head banging stage. It occurs to me that I take the opportunity to broaden its scope to cover all my software. Does anyone object? If anyone has suggestions for a good mail list hosting service let me know (by private email). I don't want a system which is based on advertising. The change in home will not need any input on your part, but the address to post to will change. Meanwhile, in the last few weeks I've met a couple of people with corrupt documents. This usually ends with me saying "probably an Ovation Pro bug, but could be a disc problem". Anyway later versions of Ovation Pro have in General choices options to check documents for corruption before saving and after loading. I now think that having those options enabled is a good idea. At least if you don't see an error on save but do see one on load you know the problem is disc based. It also stops you clobbering a good document with a bad one and persisting in using a bad document as a template for new documents. They do work with text, but don't work with underlines. That is, when I define underlines in a non-printing red, for example, they do occur both on screen (in red - which is correct) and on paper (in black! - which seems to be a double fault).
