This should be separate from the main file that gets updated when you actually save. However, David thought that most users were too stupid to understand it. I suggest not using autosave. Trust your memory. After a bit of practice, it'll be second nature. Well it will come to pass. I've not started it yet. As it happens instead of getting on with it, I've ported some smaller programs over the last couple of weeks. I would guess that getting something useable is likely to take some time. Spring is a likely time for you to see something. I imagine I will set off by making Win copies freely available to users of the Acorn version. I'm not inclined to charge much for the final Win version for users of the RISC OS one. Sad reality is that a Win version is unlikely to cost as much as the RISC OS version full stop, because the likely number of users is so much larger. If I may piggy-back my question on this one, I have used a Hewlett Packard LaserJet 1100 from Clare's for some time now with great satisfaction - until it started feeding many pages through at a time, which my local repairer has been unable to fix. Is this a common experience? I read that 'alert' very carefully and it said 'I received an *email* from...'. It didn't say a virus was sent to this list. I've deleted the posting now so cannot check again, perhaps the sender can confirm he recieved the virus via email rather than the list. You are right about the way the virus works. I got it on this PC the day before the Anti-Virus producers found out about it, and it sent itself to DP himself. :-( It had distributed only to those whose addresses appeared on web pages I had recently visited, something confirmed by one of the reports I read about it (The Register?) at the time. As David alerted me to the incident within minutes of its occurrence I was able to kill it by erasing my discs totally and reinstalling. Needless to say, it is an MS Outlook problem only. There are security patches on the MS site. If all the above is correct there is no need for most users here to worry unduly. The virus doesn't seem to have reached this list; and Acorns and non-Outlook PCs are immune. It is very easy to see if your MS system is infected: use Start menu -->Find and look for 3 files in Windows system directory: kernel32.exe kdll.dll cp_25389.nls When these are present, damage has done. Probably. My efforts so far have been directed at setting up a library on Windows that lets my RISC OS programs work in the normal way. It really has to be done that way, rewriting OPro from scratch would take years and I can't see there'd be much gain. So yes the same code. My aim is to produce something for Windows which acts just like the RISC OS version. So you'd be able to use the same applets etc. The main difficulty appears to be the lack of something like the Template format for window definitions. It comes with a printer driver which works well on printers 1.64 but is u/s on printers 1.53 which I have to use, see below. But, on printers 1.53, I can use a HP 5si driver, set the printer to emulate a 5si, and it is fine. Kyocera is cheap to run for its ink consumption. Then I have an old Canon BJC-610 which I use for good quality colour prints. Drivers are not a problem. But ink is a problem as it costs a fortune - and led to buying the Kyocera. Finally I have a Canon BJC 5500 to print BIG charts. The Acorn drivers with all the 1.6x versions are u/s as they cut off half of the big sheets. But the drivers with printers 1.53 are fine. Ink is not cheap but anything to print A2 size in colour is far cheaper than going to agencies. -- Tim Powys-Lybbe tim@powys.org For a patchwork of bygones: http://powys.org -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Tue Dec 4 21:39:08 2001 Received: from punt-11.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA158977 for opro ; Tue, 04 Dec 101 21:39:07 GMT Received: from punt-1.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 1007290578:10:05173:60; Sun, 02 Dec 2001 10:56:18 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-1.mail.demon.net id aa1126068; 2 Dec 2001 10:56 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) id fB2AxmQ06278 for ovationpro-list; Sun, 2 Dec 2001 10:59:48 GMT Received: from imailg1.svr.pol.co.uk (imailg1.svr.pol.co.uk [195.92.195.179]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) with ESMTP id fB2AxjW06275 for ; Sun, 2 Dec 2001 10:59:45 GMT Received: from modem-3096.lemur.dialup.pol.co.uk ([217.135.140.24] helo=RiscPC-1.nom) by imailg1.svr.pol.co.uk with smtp (Exim 3.13 #0) id 16AUGW-0008FM-00 for ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk; Sun, 02 Dec 2001 10:54:32 +0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 From: "Chris Dawson." (The labels for each 19th person are not being printed) * I have 18 labels on a page * using a CSV file as the data source * I'm losing every 19th record, the first on each page after page one, but the next record (the 20th) is shifting up to take its place. Checked the data and can't see anything different with each 19th record. Could any suggest a solution please? Force a reflow... work arounds, save the template as DDL or > StyleSheet. I'm not sure a reflow would always be enough. I have a similar minor problem with a multi-chapter document in which right-hand pages have a right-justified page-number, often starting in the hundreds (for the next part of a volume), set in a frame on master-pages. I start setting with page numbers from 1: fine. When it's all settled down a bit, and I have to change it to start chapter 1 from page (say) 145, all the three-figure numbers fall partially out of the frame on the right, reflow and all. This happens, in fact, with any step-increase to the numbering. The remedy is simply to go briefly into master page, cancel the right-justification and then immediately set it again. Our tech support lads at work regularly install service kits on HP1100s which feed multiple pages. I'm not sure whether the problem recurs on a printer which has been serviced. I'll ask tomorrow if I remember. It didn't say a virus was sent to this list. I've deleted the > posting now so cannot check again, perhaps the sender can confirm he > recieved the virus via email rather than the list. Yes, I can confirm that the virus came by email rather than the list. Incidentally, the originator of the email has now been in touch and confirmed that his computer had been infected. Chris Hughes wrote... >Its the new virus W32.BADTRANS2 and you do not even have to open the >attachment for it to go active Despite what Chris says about the email spreading even without opening attachments I *think* that I am okay. I am running Outlook Express 6 and each time the email was selected to appear in my preview window a dialogue box popped up asking me if I wanted to save or run the attachment (obviously I clicked 'cancel'). I think that my security settings were such that the email was being prevented from going active. Had the settings been different, I could well imagine the attachment launching transparently.
