All can be downloaded from: http://www.crawford-print.co.uk/resources.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- OvnPro - StrongHelp Script Reference Guide. (V1.03) This version has been updated with new functions and events that have recently been introduced in Ovation Pro 2.64/65. Also new to this version is the addition of the other sections from the paper based manual that were not previously included, chapters 1-3. (Overview, Writing & Executing Scripts, Script Language Details.) Although the StrongHelp version now has all the sections from the version off the CD, I still recommend printing out a paper based copy. Or better still, purchasing a copy from David Pilling, supplied as a handy A5, 128 page, wire bound manual. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NudgePal - Object moving/resizing applet (V1.04) NOTE: Requires Ovation Pro 2.61 or later. No real changes in this version from the last. The main difference is that a SELECT Click on the resizing frame will now enable object resizing if it is not already selected, and an ADJUST Click will disable object resizing. Those that have used the resizing feature in the last version will realize that this new change is a handy short cut that saves an extra Click. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- PastePos - Paste objects in position. (V1.01) NOTE: Requires Ovation Pro 2.64 or later. Now handles objects that are at negative X or Y positions. I'm surprised that nobody has reported this. Or is nobody using this applet :-( ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Gav. -- Gavin Crawford email: gav@crawford-print.co.uk web: www.crawford-print.co.uk -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Wed Aug 1 14:57:29 2001 Received: from punt-21.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA153672 for opro ; Wed, 01 Aug 101 14:57:28 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 996658309:20:00250:65; Wed, 01 Aug 2001 09:31:49 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa2118358; 1 Aug 2001 9:31 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) id f719b6P04875 for ovationpro-list; Wed, 1 Aug 2001 10:37:06 +0100 X-Authentication-Warning: omega.barnet.ac.uk: majordomo set sender to owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk using -f Received: from gateh.thls.bbc.co.uk (gateh.thls.bbc.co.uk [132.185.240.17]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) with ESMTP id f719b3p04872 for ; Wed, 1 Aug 2001 10:37:03 +0100 Received: from w1bhxi04.radio.bbc.co.uk ([10.48.8.68]) by gateh.thls.bbc.co.uk (8.11.2/8.11.2) with ESMTP id f719UMO26530 for ; Wed, 1 Aug 2001 10:30:22 +0100 (BST) Received: from w1bhxf01.radio.bbc.co.uk (unverified) by w1bhxi04.radio.bbc.co.uk (Content Technologies SMTPRS 4.2.1) with ESMTP id for ; Wed, 1 Aug 2001 10:29:44 +0100 Message-ID: <21B2A2008F16D2118E7A00805F8BF7ECA996B0@w12wnxu01.wn.bbc.co.uk> From: Michael Hunter To: "'Ovation Pro Support'" Subject: 'Alternative' Resources Site Date: Wed, 1 Aug 2001 10:29:39 +0100 X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2448.0) Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro Greetings, Does anybody know what has happened to this site? One obvious idea would be for someone to target it at OPro DDL files. But it would probably be of some use in its text output form for RISC OS users in general. It does seem to do modern Word files, so it would be a step forward. Obviously I'm saying this because I'm not about to do something myself, and I hope someone else might. One of the main new things is support for variable sized spaces in text, as a result documents saved from 2.64 won't load into earlier versions. So don't use this version to edit your lifes work just yet." 2.66 fixes another problem introduced in 2.64, this is that Draw files which contain rotated text end up with the text rendered in Trinity even if the font the text is in is present. (the idea was to use Trinity if any fonts were missing). You'll need a copy of Ovation Pro 2.60 or later to upgrade from. Before anyone panics, the only problem with copy/paste chapter is that it might copy the wrong chapter or paste it in the wrong position. There's no problem with documents that have been created with this feature. And if you don't want to upgrade to 2.66 at the moment, there's a simple workaround - only copy/paste chapters in non-facing page views. CTRL double click will OLE the sheet back to Eureka for changes, updates editing etc. Then F3 followed by [Return] will put the edited sheet back in to Ov Pro. It took some time to realise that you must have a CSV file in order for the Merge to print correctly. Clicking 'First' works OK with no CSV file but trying to Print generates an error 'Filing system ADFS: must be given a file name' . However I would like to save the file as a template for new files. The options are as a Document, as a DDL File and as a Style sheet; the results seem to be as follows: A. Document saves both the path to a (dummy) CSV file and the Merge Field Definitions - BUT does not force a new file name on a save. B. DDL Files save the Merge Field Definitions but NOT the CSV file name. C. Style Sheets save the CSV file path but not the Merge Field Definitions. Am I missing something here? However they soon withdrew the facility and re-released it comparitively recently, and it certainly works for my (UK) credit card. Said printer cannot print on the approx. last 20mm of the paper fed. I therefore decided to use oversized A4 paper measuring 214 by 345mm's. According to the printer manual, 345mm is possible. But when printing, the printout is cut at "A4" size, meaning that anything beyond 297mm is not printed. Even though the printer initially accepts the paper size (re-runs up and down for precise positioning of the 345mm high paper). I should mention that printing is done through CC Turbo drivers. Is this possibly a reason for the malfunctioning? Any help would be highly appreciated. First, part of the RiscOS printing system uses the paper NAME to make some size choices. Specifically, if the paper name starts A4 then A4 is assumed. So calling your newly defined oversized paper "A4 Oversize" may give problems, while "Oversize A4" will not. Secondly part of the printer system has a hard-coded limit somewhere between A4 and A3 length. For this reason, I believe, Spacetech supplied a separate A3 printing application for the BJ4650. I think it requires a modified PDumper, but I could very well be wrong. -- Alan Adams alan.adams@orchard-way.freeserve.co.uk http://www.nckc.org.uk/ -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Tue Aug 14 22:09:47 2001 Received: from punt-11.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA154086 for opro ; Tue, 14 Aug 101 22:09:45 GMT Received: from punt-1.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 997786443:10:03427:162; Tue, 14 Aug 2001 10:54:03 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-1.mail.demon.net id aa1121651; 14 Aug 2001 10:48 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) id f7EAFP128862 for ovationpro-list; Tue, 14 Aug 2001 11:15:25 +0100 X-Authentication-Warning: omega.barnet.ac.uk: majordomo set sender to owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk using -f Received: from sand6.global.net.uk.noc.gxn.net (sand6.global.net.uk [195.147.246.105]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) with ESMTP id f7EAFHp28859 for ; Tue, 14 Aug 2001 11:15:22 +0100 Received: from p93s02a02.client.global.net.uk ([195.147.146.148] helo=editstation) by sand6.global.net.uk.noc.gxn.net with smtp (Exim 3.03 #1) id 15Wb3s-0002PE-00 for ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk; Tue, 14 Aug 2001 11:04:37 +0100 From: "Malcolm Knight" To: Subject: RE: A printer problem Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 11:04:51 +0100 Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2910.0) Importance: Normal In-Reply-To: X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4133.2400 Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro In message you wrote: > Maybe slightly off topic, but I face a new problem wanting to use > pamphlet printing with slightly oversized paper on a Canon BJC7100. > > Said printer cannot print on the approx. last 20mm of the paper fed. I eventually discovered that it set itself according to the paper size last used on a print self-test. Tested on A3 and all was well. I know. :-) The Ovation Pro version export scripts in Organizer have an authors name in them. (cough) > Once in OvationPro I suggest you change the page layout to 2 columns. {columns 2} in the frame information added to the export script - something I'm already working on. The scripts for v1.55f and onward are circa Christmas/New Year vintage IIRC with minor twiddles around Easter. Something came up on the Organizer list the other week that I noticed when I returned from holiday, hence my renewed interest in producing decently formatted output from Organizer export. The other part being a use for keep together when importing to OvP from another source (like a database) Current project stuff includes week to view diary pages onto a fold out 3 organiser page sheet (on A4 with crop marks) and possibly a simple year planner - again 3 page fold out. > And add a column guide, at 60% or 70% tint. {columnguides 1 {thickness 2834} {colourvalue COL_01 0x10000 0} for full on colour at the default guideline thickness. 0x999A or 0xb333 would probably do the 60 and 70% tints. I'd done further testing (create document, save as ddl and check, alter guideline setting save ddl and check) the setting changes in the ddl but it has no effect on the document produced. 2.64 coming along in due course then? > >Speaking of which, how does one produce a DDL file with double sided > >master pages? > I guess you save such a document and examine the DDL. That far I've got, and it reveals two master frame definitions and a pair of CHAIN-xxx={textchain blocks. The first (I think) defines the text frame master frame definitions. CHAIN_111={textchain TEXT_110 TEXT_160 } The second tagged on the end of the script appears to define the sequence of the use of the individual child frames: CHAIN_117={textchain TEXT_16b TEXT_124 TEXT_177 TEXT_130 TEXT_182 TEXT_13c TEXT_18d TEXT_148 TEXT_198 TEXT_154 } My problem is that the number of pages will vary with the length of the exported text so I can't actually specify the precise number of child text frames in this block and unless I've got things wrong this is part of the text flow control. Those who have persevered will have found that it has been up again from last weekend. I had to go south unexpectedly because my mother was taken into hospital and subsequently died. After the funeral I had to come back to Edinburgh in order to go off on vacation a couple of days later, so I have been away from the department for five weeks. The problem has been compounded because the server (running on a Risc PC) has become prone to crashing during this past couple of months, where previously it had performed almost faultlessly. Anyway - we are back in business now. http://www1.che.hw.ac.uk/~ovpro/ If anyone has anything they would like added to the server, feel free to send it to me. I was also going to set up a page of links to other opro resources, since there are some applets etc out there on other sites, so if anyone has some opro related links they would like included let me know. To overcome some of the availability problems, the site is now mirrored at http://www.bulldog.u-net.com/ I hope the mirror site works ok - let me know of any problems with it - I know the navigation is a bit iffy between sections of the site, but it should be ok within the opro part. I hacked it together lunchtime today, so there may well be things I have missed in the transfer. Having looked through the site to check it out this morning, it is obvious that some parts of it are becoming rather dated, so I hope to have a serious update of all the pages over the next few weeks. I have even just noticed that the items of my software included in the ovpro section are years out of date compared with the versions in the software section of my site 8o( Best regards to all Chris... -- Chris Johnson mailto: C.A.Johnson@hw.ac.uk (at work) mailto: opro@chris-johnson.org.uk (at home) ovpro web site: http://www1.che.hw.ac.uk/~ovpro/ ovpro mirror: http://www.bulldog.u-net.com/ -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Wed Aug 15 20:38:51 2001 Received: from punt-21.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA154146 for opro ; Wed, 15 Aug 101 20:38:48 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 997889591:20:04958:65; Wed, 15 Aug 2001 15:33:11 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa2116294; 15 Aug 2001 15:20 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) id f7FFUBx32161 for ovationpro-list; Wed, 15 Aug 2001 16:30:11 +0100 X-Authentication-Warning: omega.barnet.ac.uk: majordomo set sender to owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk using -f Received: from finch-post-10.mail.demon.net (finch-post-10.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.38]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.11.3/8.11.3) with ESMTP id f7FFU9p32158 for ; Wed, 15 Aug 2001 16:30:09 +0100 Received: from pilling.demon.co.uk ([158.152.9.39]) by finch-post-10.mail.demon.net with smtp (Exim 2.12 #1) id 15X2SN-000Aqb-0A for ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk; Wed, 15 Aug 2001 15:19:44 +0000 Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 15:50:14 GMT Message-Id: <154140@pilling.demon.co.uk> From:(David Pilling) To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Subject: Re: Keep together, etc X-Mailer: ArcBM 1.11 Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro >2.64 coming along in due course then? Ah, yes, I know that feeling. And I know the "well it does this because of whatever" way of answering while thinking "at least if I was awake that day that's probably how I wrote it...". I've had colleagues ask me how the hell I knew how code worked that I'd written years ago, and been able to say: because that's how I'd do it now. Then of course there's the counter-case when you explain to someone (eg a junior) exactly how something should be done and open up a bit of code at random to show them... and for some good technical reason that you can't remember it does exactly the opposite. Bye bye street cred, instantly! > >Everyone "knows" that you wrote OP. Yup. And while you could look at code to see what it actually does that's not necessarily going to answer a question without looking at half the rest of the program too. > It would have been better if I'd kept working on OPro full time, but of > course I've had to go off and do other things and that means forgetting > one lot of stuff and learning another. Interesting, are we talking about text export from Sleuth or RTF? And is it really OPro that crashes, icon vanishes off the icon bar...
