Apologies if some have solutions or I have missed how to do something; 1 Why does rotating a frame rotate the graphics content but skew only does the frame, you then need to do the graphic separately. 2 Could pasting a object show the frame outline like dragging does ? - especially handy for odd shaped frames. 2a A related one, could a "paste to old position on new page" be possible - handy when moving whole pages around (yes, I guess you can do it by insert/remove page which Impression didn't sensibly do) 2c Could frames be dragged across page boundaries - I'm sure something I've played with had this feature (TextEase?) 3 Shouldn't "Cancel" on a dbox revert to previous settings - open dbox/make changes with adjust on OK then click Cancel to discard changes; I know you can undo but the above seems more correct - effectively a 1 step automatic undo. 4 Can an action be tied to an adjust click on a toolbar button (found mention of this in back catalogue of mailling list but can't remember an answer/solution). 5 Can the Info pane be embedded in the toolpane - not just position there as it doesn't get clipped when window is reduced (also have no border so looks like part of toolpane). 6 Can the tab bar be made permanent on frame containing caret ? (Though I've probably missed some magic intelligence in the way it currently works - e.g. I only just noticed it can place itself at start of a paragraph rather than page/frame.) Again apologies if I've missed something - it's amazing what it can do compared with Style/Publisher and MS Publisher which I just had a play with. Presumably OP is nearer Quark the MS Publisher ? -- ___ |im ---- ARM Powered ---- -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Thu Jun 1 21:36:51 2000 Received: from punt-11.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA127549 for opro ; Thu, 01 Jun 100 21:36:47 GMT Received: from punt-1.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 959885207:11:25316:18; Thu, 01 Jun 2000 18:46:47 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-1.mail.demon.net id aa1124546; 1 Jun 2000 18:46 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.9.3/8.9.3) id TAA03811 for ovationpro-list; Thu, 1 Jun 2000 19:43:40 +0100 Received: from finch-post-10.mail.demon.net (finch-post-10.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.38]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id TAA03808 for ; Thu, 1 Jun 2000 19:43:39 +0100 Received: from pilling.demon.co.uk ([158.152.9.39]) by finch-post-10.mail.demon.net with smtp (Exim 2.12 #1) id 12xZwQ-000Gf7-0A for ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk; Thu, 1 Jun 2000 18:43:38 +0000 Date: Thu, 01 Jun 2000 19:35:03 GMT Message-Id: <127547@pilling.demon.co.uk> From:(David Pilling) To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Subject: Re: Queries/ideas X-Mailer: ArcBM 1.11 Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro >1 Why does rotating a frame rotate the graphics content but skew only does the >frame, you then need to do the graphic separately. That doesn't sound right. When you click on OK you are saying "Yes, this is how I want it". Thus there is no expectation that clicking on Cancel will undo the changes. You've already said you want them. Cancel should undo any changes made since the last OK/Cancel. -- (\/)atthew Hambley ----------------\ "You'd better hope there's intelligent \ life somewhere out in space because snowyowl@therealm.freeserve.co.uk \ there's bugger all down here on http://www.therealm.freeserve.co.uk/ \ Earth" - The Galaxy Song, M. But that makes the word only highlighted, and not the space /after/ it. It would be better if !WordWks didn't alter the way that Ovation Pro highlights, whether it is on or off, ie it does exactly what OP does normally and highlight word + following space. Which means that the applet has to be intelligent enough to highlight the word and space after, but replace the word and space before. IYSWIM. The problem of course is !Wordworks itself which highlights the word + preceding space. > > Also, if I turn the applet off, double clicking a word throws up an > > error message. > If you mean disabling the applet (double click on the application) then > this appears to be OK at my end. What sort of error are you getting? If you click on !WordWrks to turn it off, and then go and double click on a word in Ovation Pro, you get an error message '... !WordWrks.BASICFile not found'. If you then quit and reboot OP, the message doesn't come back. Whenever you activate or deactivate an applet, you have to rerun OvPro. In this example, the reason is obvious - the file that was !WordWrks.BASICFile is now !WordWrks-.BASICFile and so OvPro can't find it. Presumably you can just reuse the drag an object code. (I'm sure I've come across something in which an adjust click whilst dragging pastes a copy and drag continues - only really meaningful for frame drags not text/graphic in frame.) > >2a A related one, could a "paste to old position on new page" be > >possible > > I suppose so. Yes I wondered how to implement, would need new page selected and a modifier on ctrl V - does ctr-shift-V do anything? or easier, just a function which can be tied to a menu-entry/button. It's actually not as important for OP to do this, it's just one of the limitations of Impression which annoyed me. I have many school booklets which are updated annually, often someone will say can we insert a new section here (I tend to use embedded frames as much as poss you make this easy) but with Imp when you say insert page text does not flow in/out of the new page hence you really have to insert new page at end and hand move all non embedded frames. (I'm sure I once found a workaround but I can't remember what it is.) Though I suppose it would still allow a page to be moved around easier - trying to position a multiple selection of frames back where they were isn't easy. > You can drag and drop frames, within documents (i.e. over page boundaries) > or from one doc to another. And if you do this (cf paste above) the outline > is displayed. Just hold down Alt when you start dragging the object around. Ah thanks; silly question, why not alt behaviour by default ? > >3 Shouldn't "Cancel" on a dbox revert to previous settings > > I don't know. I assume that the current set up is what the style guide says. Can't find it in the style guide, it explains what an action button does and that you have a cancel button but not what cancel does. A straw poll of apps and OP seems to be in majority camp - it's another of those Impression things. -- ___ |im ---- ARM Powered ---- -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Fri Jun 2 18:14:17 2000 Received: from punt-21.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA127613 for opro ; Fri, 02 Jun 100 18:14:15 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 959961991:20:06932:83; Fri, 02 Jun 2000 16:06:31 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id ab2006901; 2 Jun 2000 16:06 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.9.3/8.9.3) id RAA07658 for ovationpro-list; Fri, 2 Jun 2000 17:01:19 +0100 Received: from widukind.bi.teuto.net (IDENT:root@widukind.bi.teuto.net [212.8.197.28]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id RAA07655 for ; Fri, 2 Jun 2000 17:01:17 +0100 Received: from 212.8.202.178 (shelley.ucs.de [212.8.202.178]) by widukind.bi.teuto.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id SAA30308 for ; Fri, 2 Jun 2000 18:01:05 +0200 Message-Id: <200006021601.SAA30308@widukind.bi.teuto.net> From: Martin Vethake To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Date: 02 Jun 2000 14:48:26 GMT Subject: Re: Wordworks MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Mailer: InterTalk Client 2.65 Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro In your earlier message you wrote: [snip] >Yes this will work, but a point to note. >Some people have !CCShared inside !Boot.Resources.!System. >To have David's modifications work !CCShared needs to be in !Boot.Resources > But beware ! When they got rid of the dongle they removed the timestamp dependancy, but added a small file called CMYKPAL, (which masquerades as a palette file) inside !System. IYSWIM. > The problem of course is !Wordworks itself which highlights the word + > preceding space. !WordWorks (the CC bit) types the replace word into OP - the control at this point is not within !WrdWorks (the applet). The applet does not therefore do any of the replacing. You can see this if you double click, move the cursor and press replace in !WordWorks - the text gets inserted at the cursor. It is not possible within an applet to test the source of a key press. !WordWorks->Impression uses a message to transfer the whole text in one hit but this is only broadcast to Impression (and even if it wasn't I don't think OP applets can respond to arbitary Wimp Messages) You could change the 0x4 click type (dble-click select) to 0x1 (dble click adjust), although this does feel a little odd. I managed to bypass the problem by exporting the document as DDL and manually editing this (there may be easier ways of getting around it - that was just the first I tried). I wanted to print a sheet of labels - A4 sheet, 5 labels across, 13 labels down. To do this I: 1. Created new document with empty A4 master page (containing no frames) 2. Created single frame on the master page corresponding to top left label 3. Copied and pasted this frame twelve times to create vertical column of thirteen labels - adjusting Y coordinate of each frame 4. Grouped the thirteen frames 5. Copied and pasted the group 4 times horizontally to create a total of five columns, each of thirteen grouped frames 6. Ungrouped each of the five columns to give 5 times 13 = 65 frames 7. Linked frames starting with the top left frame, going down column, at end of column up to top of next column, at end of last (rightmost) column autolink back to top frame of first column. On closing the master frame edit window, I discovered that although all five columns of frames appeared on the master page, only the first column appeared on the first page of the document - the remaining four colums (each of thirteen frames) had disappeared. Linked frames starting with the top left frame, going down column, at > end of column up to top of next column, at end of last (rightmost) column > autolink back to top frame of first column. > On closing the master frame edit window, I discovered that although all > five columns of frames appeared on the master page, only the first column > appeared on the first page of the document - the remaining four colums > (each of thirteen frames) had disappeared. There are label templates on the resources site, including 65 labels in 13x5 format. There are two templates, one with linked frames, one without. Both of these work normally. I have also created other templates, using essentially the same methods as described above, and have never had the problem described. The only thing different is that I link the frames in rows rather than columns. -- Chris Johnson mailto: C.A.Johnson@hw.ac.uk (at work) mailto: Chris@bulldog.u-net.com (at home) ovpro web site http://www1.che.hw.ac.uk/~ovpro/ -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Tue Jun 6 21:56:34 2000 Received: from punt-21.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA127796 for opro ; Tue, 06 Jun 100 21:56:33 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 960320359:20:10574:17; Tue, 06 Jun 2000 19:39:19 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa2010515; 6 Jun 2000 19:39 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.9.3/8.9.3) id UAA21058 for ovationpro-list; Tue, 6 Jun 2000 20:08:21 +0100 Received: from finch-post-12.mail.demon.net (finch-post-12.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.41]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id UAA21053 for ; Tue, 6 Jun 2000 20:08:19 +0100 Received: from pilling.demon.co.uk ([158.152.9.39]) by finch-post-12.mail.demon.net with smtp (Exim 2.12 #1) id 12zOi2-0009gF-0C for ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk; Tue, 6 Jun 2000 19:08:18 +0000 Date: Tue, 06 Jun 2000 19:09:12 GMT Message-Id: <127782@pilling.demon.co.uk> From:(David Pilling) To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Subject: Re: Problem with PC Delete in !Boot configuration X-Mailer: ArcBM 1.11 Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro >I have PC Delete set in my RiscPC configuration >However, the RiscPC PC Delete mode does not seem to work properly with >OvationPro. To do this I: >... >4. Grouped the thirteen frames > ... perhaps the simplest thing to say is that grouping is not necessary - it is actually making the job involve more operations. copy/paste will work with multiple selected frames. Also for this particular job, I would use the 'duplicate' option (bad name since it will actually do N copies). And duplicate also works with more than one thing selected. >On closing the master frame edit window, I discovered that although all >five columns of frames appeared on the master page, only the first column >appeared on the first page of the document - the remaining four colums >(each of thirteen frames) had disappeared. I've seen the examples that you sent (obviously wrong), but OTOH I've set off from scratch along the lines you describe and had no problems. I can believe there's a problem with groups on the master page in some situations. OPro has to deal with the case where frames in the document have been made local and then deleted. It can't just plaster the master page contents into the document every time you change them. So it has to compare the previous master page with the document page. Anyway that comparison becomes tricky with groups - what are you comparing the groups? or their contents? Making the groups, closing the master pages, then opening the master pages and starting ungrouping (slightly different to what you said) might be the thing to go wrong.
