My apologies for people who experienced problems before when using our applet, and I can assure you that this version doesn't cause any (known) problems with OvationPro. It a completely re-written version of the applet and includes the following features: Bulleted list support (, , etc) Number list support (1, 2, etc) Sub-sectioned numbered list support (1.1, 1.2, etc) Indented list support To get this new version visit our website and have a look at our OvationPro pages (from the Software section). http://www.levens-software.co.uk >From here you will also find a new version of our HTML import filter. It is more stable than the previous version (due to a complete re-write of our internal libraries) and contains a few more features. Please note that it does support images. Links are embedded into the document and can be pulled out using our HTMLinks applet (supplied with the full version of HTMLPro). You will also find a demo version of HTMLPro, enabling you to test this great software before you by ;-) cheers benji -- _ software@levens.co.uk ____ __ _ | | _____ _____ _ __ ___ / ___| ___ / _| |___ ____ _ _ __ ___ | | / _ \ \ / / _ \ '_ \/ __|\___ \ / _ \| |_| __\ \ /\ / / _` | '__/ _ \ | |__| __/\ V / __/ | | \__ \ ___) | (_) | _| |_ \ V V / (_| | | | __/ |_____\___| \_/ \___|_| |_|___/|____/ \___/|_| \__| \_/\_/ \__,_|_| \___| t: 08000 191 243 f: 08000 191 242 -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Mon Apr 3 18:11:50 2000 Received: from punt-21.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA123761 for opro ; Mon, 03 Apr 100 18:11:49 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 954711663:20:03372:17; Sun, 02 Apr 2000 21:41:03 GMT Received: from omega.barnet.ac.uk ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa2003099; 2 Apr 2000 21:40 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.9.3/8.9.3) id WAA03640 for ovationpro-list; Sun, 2 Apr 2000 22:21:35 +0100 Received: from mta4-svc.virgin.net (mta4-gui.server.ntli.net [194.168.54.145]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id WAA03635 for ; Sun, 2 Apr 2000 22:21:33 +0100 Received: from bernard.hill.virgin.net ([194.168.73.164]) by mta4-svc.virgin.net (InterMail vM.4.01.02.27 201-229-119-110) with SMTP id <20000402212132.QOZI27164.mta4-svc.virgin.net@bernard.hill.virgin.net> for ; Sun, 2 Apr 2000 22:21:32 +0100 Date: Sun, 2 Apr 2000 14:18:48 +0000 (GMT) From: "Bernard G. I just tried using Netscape (no RISC OS at work :-() and I cannot even see the home page properly. I don't get any of the icons down the left hand side. Using Explorer I can at least see the icons down the left, but a lot of the text and graphics seem to be on top of each other. So there is something not quite right about the pages. I hope this isn't what can be expected from HTMLPro. It would be nice if the pages were readable on a PC as well. I managed to download the lists.arc file OK for the list applet. I downloaded the transhtml.arc file, but couldn't read it. I get a bad header error So I would guess there is something wrong with the file as well. I suppose you might want to have the 'generic' colour table (supplied with early copies of OPro installed) or one of the Pantone clone colour tables which various people have generated. Then you probably set up that colour as a spot. What I don't believe you can do is print composite output and identify a colour in it as a Pantone. Define a spot colour which is vaguely like the target colour (just to help you see how things might look on the screen) and then specify to the printer the Pantone number. This number tells the printer how to mix up the ink colur for printer. The final colour is thus generated by the printer. If you want to try and mimic a Pantone colour using process colour (i.e. define it in CMYK colour space) then beware. Some colours cannot be matched at all, others can roughly. Some artwork which calls for spot colours (e.g. reversed out text) may not work well with process colour. But the cheap hack is to get the Pantone colour number and see if you can find that number in the OvPro 'Generic' colour chart. (Shh. It would cost a great deal of money to call them Pantone colours). Print separations and tell the litho people which Pantone ink you want (making your spot colour have the Pantone number and printing it on the edge of the separation gives the printer less excuse for the wrong ink). If it is for printing to an inkjet printer you will only get an approximation (as with the screen version) as many Pantone colours are difficult to reproduce in CMYK. There is a Pantone swatch which shows pantone colour next to best CMYK match and gives the CMYK formula, but you won't want to buy it (or any Pantone swatches and books) unless you are doing a lot of spot colour work as they are very expensive. Or has the OvationPro > package been taken over while I was snoozing? Please tell me that you are > OK, and that I am ... well, probably stupid? The trouble with mailing-lists... David is or as can be seen in the top of your message (above). As he also moderates the mailing-list, he will also receive mail sent to . Emails sent to (like your one just now, and this one) get "exploded", i.e. forwarded onto everyone on the mailing list. Depending on your mail client, the header might sometimes look like it comes from the list owner even though the forwarding is automatic. With "non-member submissions" from email addresses that aren't on the list, the list owner has to forward them manually if appropriate (more work for David). Hence, non-member submissions = bad. Completely separately, if you own a domain you often get unlimited email addresses. Many people use these to filter their email - if I were to create an email address I could get my mail client to automatically put it into a mailbox called "opro" to keep it separate from other emails (although currently I choose not to). The example you cite of won't get to David but will get to Benji Levens by the same means. Indeed, you could do the same, creating an email address of if you wanted to. Full details of how to set your POP client to get them are on the freeserve customer services website. The only thing to beware of is that you might need to re-subscribe to the mailing list afterwards; if you post from a new email address, your submissions will get rejected as coming from a non-member... Hope this clarifies things. At the time the plan was to release 2.59 with auto bulleting asap. However about a week ago, I thought I'd try to work out the Impression file format. Progress has been good. I can't make promises but there's every hope that there will soon be an Impression document loader for OvationPro. At the moment I can load Impression documents and get all the frames and pictures in the right place. With luck text will soon follow. In addition Jan van Vredenburch has now delivered much of the revised manual for OvationPro. So the pieces are in place for the OvationPro upgrade CD, and it is likely that the next step will be to release that. I plan to include as much third party stuff as I can. I'm going to email the authors whose work I am aware of to ask permission. They'll get the CD for free, as will anyone who has bought OPro post Beebug (serial numbers of 5000 or greater). However contributions for the CD are still welcome. The Impression loader has long beeen talked about as a killer feature. You now don't have to leave all your old documents behind to switch to using OvationPro. I'm slightly curious as to what sort of documents I'm going to find in the real world. Clearly I can't support all the old Impression formats going back to 1988. I think it is aceptable to say that you have to save from a current version of Impression before loading into OPro. A 'current version' takes us back to at least 1994. If anyone has any ideas on how to get hold of representative Impression files let me know. Good question. OPro and Impression are relative to many programs quite close in features, but there is not a 100% overlap. I think one of the worst things, will be that OPro sets text down by the ascender + accents font height, whilst Impression uses just the ascender. So all those frames which have been tweeked to just hold the text won't. In that case it would be nice to add the feature to OPro, but I can't add every Impression feature, so you may get the frames, but they won't repeat. Making 2.59 generally available on the web site is bound to reduce the number of people buying the CD. I'd suggest distributing to a small number of beta testers - I'm sure there will be plenty of willing volunteers! I'm sure all of us would want you to receive the maximum revenue from this release. Well not really. Firstly I've never used Impression, secondly the protection makes it tough to keep a working copy. I do have older copies and a dongle... but there are StrongARM issues with older versions too. As I said I don't intend supporting every version of Impression, the modest amount of data I have so far, shows that there isn't a lot of variation in files in current use. I believe Style as well as Publisher files will be OK. It may be 8 years since they changed file format - no one with an unedited 8 year old document can seriously want to use it. Interesting thing, Impression is limited to 255 styles and effects in one document. So you can only have 255 fonts (and nothing else), or 255 font sizes. Surprised this has never been raised as a problem... It occurs to me that it isn't just unedited old documents though, David. When CC introduced the newer single file format, they retained the old one because it allowed larger documents that were bigger than available memory to be loaded piecemeal and still worked on. Or do you mean the format prior to that one? >Interesting thing, Impression is limited to 255 styles and effects in one >document. So you can only have 255 fonts (and nothing else), or 255 font >sizes. Surprised this has never been raised as a problem... Rather than raise any problem with CC, it was generally easier to find a way around it. In this case, splitting the document into parts would seem to be the way. ;-) Having said that, I only came across this when trying to create an example document listing all my fonts.
