I intend to base them all on 2.52. So before you start playing with the upgrade, make sure you have a copy of 2.52 for future use. The upgrade can only be used on a standard copy protected 2.52. It will not work on a site licence version of 2.52 or on 2.53. Improvements include; * Support for Impression type Draw file frame borders (a side effect of which is instant crop marks on any frame). * The contents of picture frames can now be tiled * Spell checking extended to find repeated words e.g. the the However the main event is that you can use the new EPS applet with it. The EPS applet is available from the applets pages on the web sites. It supports EPS and DCS files. OPI will wait until I find someone who actually uses it or wants to use it. So far everyone has a friend who knew someone who once used it... This version requires new ArtWorks and Colour Supplement applets and both these are included in the archive. Full documentation for the new features is also included. It is quite a big download, just under 1Mb. I am inclined to have a dig at those who have failed to read the instructions with previous upgrades - i.e. the !!ReadMe file. As far as I know all the wailing and gnashing of teeth that has gone on could have been avoided by reading this 150 word file. However to do so, would be to tempt fate... The last two upgrades are (for me) very significant and extremely welcome. Small bug that appears to have crept in since 2.54 involves OLEing graphics. Multiple saves of the same OLEed file back into OP causes a type 5 error every time on all the machine I've used. Example: Create a new page and put a blank frame in it Create a simple Artworks file (a couple of ellipses will do) Drop said file into OP frame OLE it out, and from Artworks F3 to save it back into OP without closing the OLE window. Now save (F3) it a few more times Doing this causes a type 5 within about 5 or 6 repeated saves. If I do this but close the OLE window and reOLE the file each time I want to change the image all is well - although this is not really /that/ convenient. Using SA RPC running ROS4.02. Have tried from a clean install in the root of an ADFS disc after a full reset and shift break with the same result. It does not do this on the other RPC (610) running ROS3.50, so it appears to be an OP vs ROS4 problem. Make your ticket with a blank master frame just tall enough for one line in your chosen ticket number font and link this frame to itself with the autolink tool. Set the bodytext style to suit the ticket numbers. You should now have a blank ticket with the right style set. Set up thumbnails printing as necessary. Save the document. If you now prepare an ordinary text file with each number on a separate line (a spreadsheet may speed this up), then when you drag it into the master frame (you don't have to edit the master page for this) the document will multiply up as required, and printing via thumbnails will put as many as you have set on a sheet. No need for mail merging! (Don't save the document with the ticket numbers in place: unless your theatre's very small it'll take so long you think the computer's broken) If the above doesn't make sense I'd be happy to send you a sample. My above paragraph is inaccurate, should >read... "type 5 error every time on all the ROS4 machines I've used." Well I can't reproduce this, I've only got Draw on this machine. Its probabably a matter of finding the catch. For example the one part of OLE I have changed is to do with referenced files. However it won't crash for me with referenced or non-referenced files. Another possibility is that there are actually 2 versions of the OLE protocol, however I'd guess ArtWorks is the same as Draw. Only a few apps like TableMate use the full OLE thing. > Anyway, great work. Isn't it time we were able to pay you some money > for the recent upgrades? I think I'll stick to the original plan. In a few months there should be an upgrade worthy of the name for which it will be worth paying. Most of the improvements recently won't have been of much interest to many users. It would not be a very happy experience to start trying to sell an upgrade with EPS to people who'd much rather have tables and bullets. More important is that a significant improvement might start to sell new copies. If I could sell a reasonable number of new copies I wouldn't be thinking of charging for an upgrade. It will matter one day that a new version sells, obviously otherwise I won't invest time and money in the project forever. All the more reason to get things right first. It seems to work pretty nicely. The colour control is a nice feature. Two questions: 1) Is it possible to have different borders for different sides of the frame? This is possible in Impression, and allows some very flexible effects, like fancy drop frames etc. 2) Is there a limit on the number of files in the Borders directory (assuming RISC OS 4 which allows more than 77 files)? No. >What overheads are involved in having a large number of files in the Borders directory? On program start they are all loaded into memory. I've a few points of my own. It seems that the Ovation 1 loader just picks the first border when converting files. I happen to have some old documents, and got caught out with the border style suddenly changing. So beware. I may fix this. As above I don't know if CC ever spec'd how these files work. The way I've done it, it should be possible to use text, sprite, or jpeg objects in the border. The collection of borders I gave to Chris Johnson came off Arcade BBS. If anyone knows who the originator is, it would be good to credit them. Two of them were by 'hazzy', young Mr. Haslam I think. They were present, but when I checked them against the ones in the upgrade version (out of the zip file), it was clear that these two files had not upgraded. The problem was that I had 'newer' set in the filer copy options (as well as 'force'). I took this off and was able to upgrade the two files. All is now well. Thanks again, David. OP 2.52 works like a dream, OP 2.54/5 gives me a type 5 every time with Artworks. This is using literally the most simple of senarios, a new blank A4 page with a single non referenced AW picture containing 3 objects. OLE this and then F3 it 2-3 times and OP dies every time without fail for me. New news! If the AW file *is referenced* then it works fine?!? Now that's a step in the right direction! Note: proxy on its own still crashes, ref and proxy is fine. > > Anyway, great work.
