The latest colour sup upgrade, uses a new version of !Freshen, as promised sometime back this is now smarter, so if you try to upgrade the wrong version of the applet it complains - in the first instance it will say the length of !RunImage is wrong. But this is the length of what you are upgrading, not the length of the Zip file on the web pages, which is what I quoted above. Anyway the new !Freshen will stop you upgrading the wrong thing or upgrading twice. How true. I've just had a 'phone call out of the blue asking me to spend the next eight months writing COBOL. Not my idea of fun, and eight months will take us well into the next cricket season, but for the money they're offering... It'll probably come to nothing anyway. Ever since the news about Acorn broke I've been wondering what to say to you. Thanks for all your help in the past, and good luck with whatever you end up doing in the future is about the best I can manage. With any luck you won't end up writing COBOL. As an ever growing design house we need to obtain constant support and the such like. Our sister compay is none other than Levens Software, who at this minute are putting (one of) the finishing touches to HTMLPro. An application designed to convert full Ovation Pro DDL files into a full Internet Web site, with graphics and links also supported. Being one of the two members of Levens Software I know for a fact that we would happily look at providing other filters for OvationPro. HTMLPro is not a filter but a stand alone application. However, supplied with HTMLPro is TransGIF - a filter to allow full importing of Web enabled GIF's whilst retaining their mask information. We are looking at an enhanced PhotoCD import facility, allowing better import options. I'm just off to look at obtaining file format details for early Word support (start small). Problem is it's likely to end up with one side or the other being disapointed. As I said the other day everything depends on the direction "Acorn" goes in the next week or month. And its not just the usual thing of waiting forever. Things are going to be decided soon. Once we can all see whats going to happen with Acorn, and once Beebug have transformed themselves into their new business. Then I and Beebug are going to have a serious discussion about the future of OPro. I'll resolve the things like the RTF loader (qv) at the same time. I did read the instructions before I updated my "stock copy" of v1.46 - but for some inexplicable reason didn't carry out steps 3 and 4 correctly. I think the problem may be the fact that once you've done an upgrade it somehow doesn't make any sense to drop the old version over the new one. I actually tried to drop the new and old version into the upgrade window - I know it sounds silly - and gave up when the upgrade utility threw up an error. As with all things, having done it correctly once, then the instructions make absolute sense. The only thing I can suggest is that you insert a line at the start of item 3 saying something like "Having done the main upgrade, ensure that Force is selected......". This may make people think more about what is required AFTER "Upgrade" has done its stuff. It is from the same people who do the LJ Duplex printer. It is called BatchPrint and comes from Mijas software. I have version 2.00 dated 5th NOV 97. It is a useful little thing. Sound reasonable? I think that the problem is the two stages of the installation. Most people can cope with clicking on !Install, but then forget that you have to also copy the !OvnPro directory over the working copy. The anticipation is that Install has done it all for you. Perhaps the installer could have an obey file inside that did it for you. Getting the correct pages onto the two sides of each sheet seems very complex. If I print just the front sides of the sheets then pick up that stack of pages and put them back into the printer and print the backs of each sheet then the backs and fronts do not match. Instead I have to shuffle the sheets of paper into the reverse order to print the backs. Couldn't OvationPro do this automatically. In other words, for a 12 page pamphlet when printing the fronts it should print pages: 12 1 10 3 8 5 then when printing the backs it should print pages: 6 7 4 9 2 11 Also it seems rather odd that if you tell it to print all pages rather than just the fronts or backs it does it in the order: 12 1 11 2 10 3 4 9 8 5 6 7 This does not allow you to only put 3 sheets of paper into the printer and then put them back in to print the other sides. -- ------------------------------------------------------------- Rob Hemmings Southport Tel: +44 (0)1704 573210 robh@argonet.co.uk -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Mon Oct 5 19:44:14 1998 Received: from punt-21.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA79806 for opro ; Mon, 05 Oct 98 19:44:13 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 907496860:20:28796:16; Sun, 04 Oct 98 10:27:40 GMT Received: from [194.82.200.3] ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa2028773; 4 Oct 98 10:27 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.8.6/8.8.6) id LAA06347 for ovationpro-list; Sun, 4 Oct 1998 11:10:46 +0100 Received: from ursa.cus.cam.ac.uk (cusexim@ursa.cus.cam.ac.uk [131.111.8.6]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.8.6/8.8.6) with ESMTP id LAA06336 for ; Sun, 4 Oct 1998 11:10:29 +0100 Received: from rjet1.quns.cam.ac.uk ([131.111.141.45]) by ursa.cus.cam.ac.uk with smtp (Exim 2.03 #2) id 0zPl8i-0000ag-00 for ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk; Sun, 4 Oct 1998 11:11:44 +0100 Date: Sun, 4 Oct 1998 11:11:57 +0100 (BST) From: Rupert Thompson Subject: Re: Beebug - "porting of OP" To: Ovation Pro Mailing List In-Reply-To: Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; CHARSET=US-ASCII X-No-Archive: Yes X-Mailer: ANT RISCOS Marcel [ver 1.46] Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro On Sat 03 Oct, Alan Muscat wrote: > In message you wrote: > > > On Thu 1 Oct 98 (19:05:06 +0100), ovpro@abacusline.demon.co.uk wrote: > > > > > > > As a previous posting said, what will help is the development of > > > loaders > > > > and savers for OP eg Impression, Word, WP HTML etc > > > > > > I would like to see such 'filters'. > > > > > > > > I'm just off to look at obtaining file format details for early Word support > > (start small). A alpha version of my Word loader is available for download from Chris Johnson's OPro resources website - I basically released it to show that yes, something is being done wrt a Word loader. Currently it only handles Word 6/7; when I'm happy with how it handles those formats, Word 8 support looks fairly simple to build in too. I don't imagine my code will be any use to someone writing a Word saver, but if anyone is planning to have a go we might well be able to help each other with stuff like making sense of the appalling documentation. -- Rupert Thompson Queens' College, Cambridge, CB3 9ET, UK http://rjet1.quns.cam.ac.uk (when my computer's on!) -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Mon Oct 5 19:44:18 1998 Received: from punt-21.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA79808 for opro ; Mon, 05 Oct 98 19:44:16 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 907497289:20:01626:18; Sun, 04 Oct 98 10:34:49 GMT Received: from [194.82.200.3] ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa2001481; 4 Oct 98 10:34 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.8.6/8.8.6) id KAA06143 for ovationpro-list; Sun, 4 Oct 1998 10:31:27 +0100 Received: from post.mail.demon.net (post-11.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.40]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.8.6/8.8.6) with ESMTP id KAA06127 for ; Sun, 4 Oct 1998 10:31:08 +0100 Received: from [158.152.98.218] (helo=gvine.demon.co.uk) by post.mail.demon.net with smtp (Exim 2.03 #1) id 0zPkWg-0007RF-00 for ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk; Sun, 4 Oct 1998 09:32:27 +0000 Received: from [127.0.0.1] by gvine.demon.co.uk with SMTP; Sat, 03 Oct 1998 17:20:00 GMT Date: Sat, 03 Oct 1998 18:19:42 +0100 From: Alan Muscat To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Subject: Re: Upgrade Colour Supplement Message-ID: <29e558f48%ovation@gvine.demon.co.uk> In-Reply-To: <79632@pilling.demon.co.uk> X-Organization: Grapevine Digital Arts X-Mailer: Messenger v1.40b for RISC OS MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Posting-Agent: RISC OS Newsbase 0.60m Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro Status: R In message <79632@pilling.demon.co.uk> you wrote: > > > >Me too. For the first run click 'All pages' Click 'Back' Click 'reverse' Click 'Print' Once printed pick up the pages as they are and place them back in the printer with the narrow side away from you going in first. Click 'front'. Click 'Print' Once printed, pick up and fold in half......you've got a pamphlet! For the title page, leave the setting as it is, type out you title and print. Hope that helps although I have yet to work out how to print off the 'odd page' from the middle of a pamphlet.
