To force a new page (or next *linked* frame) then you press enter on the numeric keypad, or use ASCII 12 (form feed) in a file. Not sure if that is any help. It is very nice and flexible but requires the additional thought. Let's say You want 4 frames on a page for a flowing story and a fifth for a picture or some blurb, like this: ----- ----- | 1 | | 2| | | | | ----- ----- --- --- --- |3| |5| |4| | | | | | | --- --- --- Now You link 1 - 2, 2 - 3, 3 - 4 and 4 - 1, which means that overflow in frame 4 will produce a new page. The link from 4 to 1 will be displayed in green to indicate its special function. Frame 5 is not linked with itself and will not generate new pages. Nice, isn't it? Thanks, but it don't work. It's a fax header with the details of "who" etc. in a frame. The body of the text is (rightly) in a master frame, which may therefore spill over to a new (blank) page. You can't link the header frame to a master frame, hence my difficulties. ANYTHING would be better than trying to emulate mouse clicks, which is a horrible business, but may be the ultimate solution I suppose. Every time I edit a document within OP that contains embedded images, then any modification that forces a repositioning of an image, always results in OP leaving part of the frame outline on the screen. (I have the option View-->Options-->Guidelines ticked) However, this only appears to happen when images are shifted downwards, and OP only appears to leave the top line of the old frame outline on the screen. I have also noticed that if I resize an image frame that is at the very top of a page, then parts of the old frame outline, including frame handles are left on the screen. That "linked frame" is the clue I think. If ovation@locationworks links his successive frames within the OP window then a numeric pad Enter will go from frame to frame in order to allow successive import of text. If it's in the manual, I can't find it. I don't think there is as such. There are various key presses you can use from macros. Then you have bookmarks which have extensive ways in which they can be moved- but not to the next frame. One point is that if you have a chain of text frames linked together, then you can only move through the ones with text in. You might have 6 frames, but the text story only fills the first 2 frames. If you want to get to frame 5, then as others have said you need to insert some new frame codes. I can think of one fiddle, which is that there are functions that tell you which page the caret/bookmark is on, so you might keep moving until the page number changes... If "PostScript Screen" is selcted in the Halftone screen dialogue (off the Separations dialogue (off the Print dialogue)) then near the start of the *first* page in the postscript output the following line is inserted: 150 45 {Dot} setscreen Deselect "PostScript screen" and this line is not included. The option is selected by default, but the line only appears in the output for the first page of any print run. My problem is that when I run the output through GhostScript the halftoning of any light grey object on the first page is noticably more coarse than on any subsequent page, even if exactly the same colour/tint is used in all cases. Worse still, when output to my PS printer, any such light grey objects appear much darker on the first page of output than do any identical objects on subsequent pages of output. If this is some weird problem with colour calibration, why is it affecting only the first page of any printout, irrespective of which page I start with? It's always the first *physical* page to leave the printer - so if I print in Galley format any logical pages on the first physical page exhibit the same problem. I'm not using colour separations at all here. Has anyone else met this problem, or has no-one else been sending greyscale objects to PS? :( Julian. -- "Yes?" "Is that Charlie?" "Yes." I drag some text in from another OP file and import Bodytext01 If I click in the text and look at the styles, it has Bodytext and Bodytext01 selected. Why can't I delete Bodytext01 without the text going - it has Bodytext attributed to it anyway? It's a pain. Cutting between documents makes the style list grow enormously and it's difficult to find where the unwanted styles are in use. It took me over 6 months to get connected. The Swiss all have blinkers so they do not see the outside world with all it's goodies. Acorn, RiscOs, et al, are so unknown here that when comparing it to stamps a RiscPC is worth millions! All right, I now downloaded all mailing list archives from the beginning and have finished reading 1996. No reference to that dreadful bug in that year! Hope to manage reading the 1997 monthly archives the coming 2 weeks. Hope to find the quotes on that dreadful bug! ** But this all does show the need for a FAQ listing. ** > Maybe you have very new or old versions of the drivers. I think the !Custom file inside OPro explains this. I have printer drivers v 1.54. Yes, you are correct that my set up indeed did convert the JPEG file to a sprite. I changed this but now JPEG files are not accepted. I do need to do some more testing before really stating that it does not work. You mention a !Custom file inside OPro. I cannot find it. Might it be a good idea to give an overview of all the files one should at present have with OP2.50 so everyone can check their files. For the applets a separate listing would be called for. Here allow me one suggestion: not in all cases is it easy to discover which version of an applet one has. Allow me to suggest that every applet has a 1st line in it's Help file stating the version number and date. Thank you for a wonderful program! The problems that I see are that if you copy to a document and Bodytext has different attributes to those in the source, then a new Bodytext00 is created. Now if you repeat the operation I don't think it is smart enough to look for Bodytext00, but instead creates 01. As to vanishing text my fear would be that instead of overlaying Bodytext00 over Bodytext it does not and just has the former style which you can delete. I now always have general preferences set to NOT rename styles (which gets rid of the bodytext01 problem). And if I am preparing a file which will go to a bureau, I NEVER cut and paste from another document - I always transfer the text without styles as ascii (save story). This is to ensure no rogue font information or other style specs get transferred to the new document. I used to find some strange behaviour when I deleted unwanted styles, if there happened to be some text left with that style attached. Quite likely this behaviour has been tidied up - I haven't dared delete styles from any important document in a long while. I was not refering to OvationPro, but to general German translations!). I was refering to the translations for compression algorithms as well as standard OS error messages: Crunch -> Zerknacken Squash -> Quetschen Compress -> Komprimieren the last one being well translated! You can't literally translate the other two words. You should leave them English for better understanding. Every German would laugh if you told him "Ich muss diese Datei noch quetschen bevor ich sie Dir sende" -> "I'll have to squash this file prior to sending it to you". ;-) Or I simply dislike some German words: Discard -> Verwerfen it's the work used in Windows as well, but I dislike it, because "verwerfen" is used that rarely that it really sounds strange to my ears. Or what about this: Postmortem requested (or similar) -> Obduktion verlangt! I was ROTFLOL when I heard the German translation! I could go on with this. But to make it clear: I'm *not* accusing the translators of doing a bad job! Really not! It's just that *I* personally don't like a German territory because of some reasons. They're doing a very well job translating Templates and Message files from English into German. It's not easy. There are many words in English you can't express in easy German. And that's the cause why *I* like a few English words more than a lot of German words that try to explain what is meant. Nothing to do with translators, but with the characteristics of the languages. Another point is that almost *every* German translation is longer than the original English one. In English you can express everything a lot shorter. This results in bigger menus covering more of the screen and thus obscuring more information behind the menu. I hope I did make my opinion clear enough so that no misunderstanding is left! ;-) Greetings, -- _____ _____ ____ ____ ____ _ _ | ___/_ _| __| __/ __ | \| | Stefan Bellon mailto:sbellon@gmx.de |___ | | | | __| __| __ | | /_____| |_| |____|_| |_||_|_|\_| Acorn RiscPC * StrongARM 202Mhz * 50 MB RAM Please all, and you will please none. -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Fri Sep 4 01:09:01 1998 Received: from punt-21.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA76735 for opro ; Fri, 04 Sep 98 01:08:59 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 904861281:20:25036:16; Thu, 03 Sep 98 22:21:21 GMT Received: from [194.82.200.3] ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa2024805; 3 Sep 98 22:20 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.8.6/8.8.6) id WAA21587 for ovationpro-list; Thu, 3 Sep 1998 22:13:27 +0100 Received: from post.mail.demon.net (post-11.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.40]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.8.6/8.8.6) with ESMTP id WAA21582 for ; Thu, 3 Sep 1998 22:13:15 +0100 Received: from [194.222.101.118] (helo=mackinlay.demon.co.uk) by post.mail.demon.net with smtp (Exim 2.02 #1) id 0zEghf-0007H9-00 for ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk; Thu, 3 Sep 1998 21:14:04 +0000 Date: Wed, 2 Sep 1998 23:07:12 +0100 (BST) From: Colin Mackinlay Subject: Re: Thesaurus as macro (old request) To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk In-Reply-To: <75753@pilling.demon.co.uk> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; CHARSET=US-ASCII X-Organization: cmk X-Mailer: ANT RISCOS Marcel [ver 1.46] Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro In on Tue 25 Aug, David Pilling wrote: > > > >Sorry this is an old request- and I know it is in the archives, but I cannot > >bear the thought of going through them all to find the answer!!! > > Well you would of course use a file search utility, which would take > all of a minute to find the information for you. > > It's in the January 1998 archive. > Where are the archives please?! -- Colin Mackinlay -- To unsubscribe from this list, email majordomo@lists.barnet.ac.uk with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ovationpro in the body of the message From owner-ovationpro@omega.barnet.ac.uk Fri Sep 4 01:09:05 1998 Received: from punt-21.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA76737 for opro ; Fri, 04 Sep 98 01:09:03 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for opro@pilling.demon.co.uk id 904861289:20:25095:16; Thu, 03 Sep 98 22:21:29 GMT Received: from [194.82.200.3] ([194.82.200.3]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id aa2025063; 3 Sep 98 22:21 GMT Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.8.6/8.8.6) id WAA21630 for ovationpro-list; Thu, 3 Sep 1998 22:19:18 +0100 Received: from post.mail.demon.net (post-20.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.27]) by omega.barnet.ac.uk (8.8.6/8.8.6) with ESMTP id WAA21624 for ; Thu, 3 Sep 1998 22:19:06 +0100 Received: from [158.152.9.39] (helo=pilling.demon.co.uk) by post.mail.demon.net with smtp (Exim 2.02 #1) id 0zEgnG-0006kg-00 for ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk; Thu, 3 Sep 1998 21:19:50 +0000 Date: Thu, 03 Sep 98 20:26:30 GMT Message-Id: <76711@pilling.demon.co.uk> From:(David Pilling) To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Subject: Re: Printing problem with JPEG; create a FAQ X-Mailer: ArcBM 1.11 Sender: owner-ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk Precedence: bulk Reply-To: ovationpro@lists.barnet.ac.uk X-maillist: ovationpro Status: R >No reference to that dreadful bug in that >year! KeyFix is a program for those with problems using the keyboard, it provides locks for the shift and control keys. The latest version includes a mouse emulator. Anyway, the mouse emulator clashes with OvationPro (you'd think the authors would talk to one another). By adding the following bit of sneaky code to the KeyFix !Run file, you can get around this; Set Alias$UKEYBOARD_ON %UKEYBOARD_ON %%*0|mSetEval Test$Eval 1|m RMEnsure KeyFix 0 SetEval Test$Eval 0|mIf Test$Eval THEN RMReinit KeyFix|mUnset Test$Eval (all on one line please). This illustrates the technique to use if you find the OPro keyboard module upsetting something. Because OPro talks to the module via *commands they can be intercepted. You can't with the OP's standard search and replace facility, but you can do it with the small applet I have just written; !SRWE. Using !SRWE, to insert a newpage, simply place the string {C_P} within the replace string. That is assuming you're using the standard key definitions. .... > What I wrote was SRWE (search and replace with effect). To place it on the button bar, goto Misc-->Macros and scroll down the list of button macros until you find srwe (probably the last entry in the list) and then select it. There are occasions when I wish to embed a line about 0.5mm wide within a page of text. Not just once but perhaps 6 or 7 times at successive places in a document running to several pages. Assuming that the text fills the main frame of the document, if one draws a line from the left hand to the right hand side of this frame i.e. the full width of the main frame, it cannot be embedded. Any attempt to do so and the line and all the text below it, disappear. The line must always be at least one character width shorter than the main text frame, and all is then well. I presume the effect is connected with the word-wrap facility of the program, which breaks down when the line is just a tiny bit longer than a full line of text. The line has nowhere to be wrapped to. Of course the same problem occurs with embedding a frame. The frame must always be a little narrower than the main text frame, if it is to be embedded successfully. However this is not something one would normally try to do. But with lines the problem is more likely to occur. I haven't seen it mentioned in correspondence (or in the manual). -- Maurice Edmundson=========================email:maured@eurobell.co.uk 10 Carlisle Avenue Telephone/Fax: 01727 859450 St. Albans, Herts. If you make the inset in the frame zero, then you can embed a line the whole width of the frame. Basically you can't embed a line longer than the width of the text area. I think you'd rename the text file 'INBOX' and copy it into your mail folder, i.e. one users mailfolder. This is one of the things, you can use standard mail reading software on these files. Although I'd guess Edit and a standard text searching program would be fairly quick - because they will let you search the whole file in one go, rather than read each message.
