Then maybe you should persevere. ;-) It is, after all, easy enough to write a filter that'll split it into individual messages. Being a Messenger user, and too idle to write such a filter unless I really have to, I enquired on the Messenger mailing list, and was told Try http://www.kerofin.demon.co.uk/ftp/ and look for !DeDigest but I've not yet had a chance. My main objection to the way you did it was that individual messages were stripped of their Message-ID headers, so it would be impossible for my mailer to include In-Reply-To headers or meaningful attribution lines. OK how's this for (very) pseudocode... Italic effect: - Take current complete font name (including all weights and styles) - Check if it's tail already contains any of: italic, bold.italic, oblique or bold.oblique. If so, toggle and exit. - Check for an italic version of the complete font name. If so, apply and exit. - Check for an oblique version. If so, apply and exit. - If neither found then simply exit (let the punter sort it out for themselves) Bold effect: - Take current complete font name (including all weights and styles) - Check if it's tail already contains: bold, bold.italic, bold.oblique. If so, toggle and exit. - Check if tail contains italic or oblique. Flag if so. - Check for a bold version of the complete font name (looking up a level if italic/oblique has been flagged. Except you've also got to allow for 'oblique' and I doubt every italic font has the word italic on the end. In other words somewhere fonts will be named like "font.italic.something". Anyway all this is sounding defeatist, I'll have another go. From: >The latter have a feature which allows programs to send CMYK direct to the >printer. For reference, OPro will only do direct CMYK output to Turbo drivers if the document has a colour separations data structure. It will only have this if either (a) separations have been enabled or (b) the View->Seps menu has been opened. Once either of these two conditions have been met the data exists for all time. The Turbos set up a system variable Printer$ColourTable and I imagine that by twiddling it from a script/event one could reproduce the Impression type behaviour where the printers colour table is automatically disabled. I must report that, in fact, only the LEFT HAND CTRL SHFT keys perform such an action, the RIGHT HAND CTRL SHFT keys do nothing of a sort!. They do nothing at all, in fact. Why cannot this insert gap function be entirely independent of which CTRL SHFT keys are used? 3) In the colour supplement instruction leaflet, mention is made of the need to use a colour tint chart. Yet, I cannot find such a chart, nor can I find how to print one automatically from Ovation Pro. Would it not be a great idea to supply everyone with a printable colour tint chart in an Ovation Pro document. Or do you already and have I missed it somewhere? Or is this what the ProcessCMYK colour chart is for? If so, it has only 216 colours in it, not the 1000 colours that the instructions mention as necessary for a colour tint chart, and also, HOW DO WE PRINT IT? 4) How to crash the computer with Ovation Pro 2.46: A) Load a new document B) Draw a picture frame. C) Drag a sprite into the picture frame. D) Put menu =C9Process->RGB` up on screen and drag separate R, G, and B gamma curves. E) Click Adjust within the picture frame! Computer hung! 5) With a document loaded, and with a dictionary loaded too, it is sometimes possible, by clicking on the 'underlining spelling checker` to get it to underline every correctly spelt word but leave the in-correctly spelt words not underlined! This happens a lot when you have multiple documents loaded and are spell checking between several. It seems to invert the spell checking function! Clicking twice on the 'underline spell checker` button sorts the problem out, but it should never occur in the first place. It should be fairly easy for the programmer to sort this bug out without even knowing where it occurs. Simply stop it inverting the function. 6) The same sort of thing seems to happen with bold text. Putting text into an empty text frame that has the bold effect in it results in the text being inserted NON-BOLD in that frame. Moreover, the bold indicator ('B`) on the text frame info bar illuminates itself when the caret is placed within this NON-BOLD text. It isn`t bold, but it should be. Pressing the 'B` button again with the text selected still does not result in the text becoming bold, it is still non-bold. Press the bold 'B` button yet again and the text now becomes bold at last. Somehow the function seems to get inverted. This also happened on the previous versions of Ovation Pro, so it is a problem that was never found nor sorted. 7) There may be a problem with the 'Replace` function of the spell checker. When I have multiple documents loaded (about 50 or so) and I am spell checking, pressing the 'Replace` button to change the spelling of a word sometimes results in a crash. This may be because the computer is short of memory, I do not really know, but it seems to have plenty. How much does it need to =C9Replace` a word? It has at least 300K spare in my machine. Here follows the error readout from such a crash: Internal Error, No Stack for Trap Handler. Not enough memory., stack overflow. Pc=3D339A4310, registers at 00115230 -------------- SWI & 205110 not known ---------------------------- Error from Palette SWI &205110 not known. Many further errors ensue on answering OK or Cancel to the many error boxes it puts up. 8) I mentioned this before, and you say it is Acorns` fault. You say that, because of the space occupied by the button bars, the Page Up and Page Down keys (or equivalent mouse clicks in the slide bar areas) make the page move up and down by MORE than a full window full. It is extremely annoying not to be able to use these keys, for if we do, we skip parts of the document. Are you absolutely sure that there is absolutely nothing whatsoever that cannot be done to prevent this from happening? Surely there must be some hack that your programmer can do to to overcome this very unfortunate 'feature`. It really is most annoying and un-professional. These bugs and anomalies all manifest themselves on my A540, 8MB RAM, OS3.10, printers 1.53patched computer. It will, however, load successfully with this applet set to -OArtWrks. So we seem to require a new version of OArtWrks. 2) In the APPLICATION CHOICES/COLOUR menu - just below the word 'Typeset' (which is in a writable/selectable window) - the part-word 'ons' appears. What is this 'ons' option, and why is it so far over to the left that this is the only part of the option that appears on the screen. Not even the option box for this option appears on the screen, so we cannot select it, whatever it is. What is it? 3) The text in the Hints section is sometimes garbled. Either the window is not big enough to contain the hint text, or the hint text is displayed too far up the window. There is always a spare blank line below the text. Whatever, for large hints, it is garbled. Smaller hints fit in the window ok. OK, there needs to be a distinction here between applets and scripts. When we originally released Ovation Pro the program had a series of scripts written for it and added a Script menu entry to the main menu. In the latest release we have self-contained applets and an Applets menu entry is added to the main menu. These two ways of accessing extensions to the program should not be used together. Any standalone script files and/or the !Script applet should be removed from the Applets and/or Library directory and the later self-contained applets should be installed into the Applets directory. In the latest version you should only have CCPrfix, Imposition, !MenuLib and !ALib in the Library directory. What I mean by self contained is the applet is in its own application directory. -- Ian MacDougall Beebug Ltd To unsubscribe send a message to: maillist@risc.demon.co.uk with the Subject: SIGNOFF ovationp-l To subscribe the Subject line should be: SIGNON ovationp-l From maillist@risc.demon.co.uk Wed Jul 2 13:50:47 1997 Received: from relay-12.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA41488 for david ; Wed, 02 Jul 97 13:50:45 GMT Received: from punt-2.mail.demon.net by mailstore for david@pilling.demon.co.uk id 867833350:05:01843:1242; Wed, 02 Jul 97 09:49:10 BST Received: from risc.demon.co.uk ([158.152.18.44]) by punt-2.mail.demon.net id ay0522746; 2 Jul 97 9:20 BST From:(Tony Stauber) Sender: imac@risc.demon.co.uk Date: Tue, 01 Jul 1997 15:22:21 +0100 Organization: Subject: Re: Applets not working To: Subscribers to the mailing-list OVATIONP-L Reply-To: ovationp-l@risc.demon.co.uk Message-ID: <19970701.152221.16@risc.demon.co.uk> Precedence: bulk X-Posting-Date: Wed, 25 Jun 1997 18:26:40 +0300 X-MailList: MailList v0.16 the mailing-list robot for RiscOS X-Apparently-From: X-Posting-Agent: RISC OS Newsbase 0.56 Status: R On Tue 24 Jun, Ian MacDougall wrote: > This has confused me (not hard). !Label and !TransDte are not on > the web site as far as I am aware. I repeat: The unique applet should read the settings recorded in the docume= nt. On to a more positive note... The addition Applets are welcome. The Font Menu changes are good. The slight changes to master pages helpful. The multi row button bar excellent. So, my =9Erst impressions (sorry) of the upgrade are favourable. Yes this was a problem with 2.45. The problem is that the paper sizes are not exactly the same size as A4 i.e. 297.0 H and 210 W You get 296.9 etc etc. If you can change the paper size then do so, if not you can set the first argument of printchoices2 to 0 (assuming it is 16 as it is by default). Essentially it is just three letters, the first three of the applet name would be sensible. In the !StylePal applet, for instance, set stylepal_centre=0 at the start of the code, and the palette will be opened wherever the template file puts it. -- Rupert Thompson Queens' College, Cambridge, CB3 9ET, UK Research Fellow in Classics Tel.: 01223-331943 / 0402-130221 http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/4423/ http://rjet1.quns.cam.ac.uk/ (during the day) To unsubscribe send a message to: maillist@risc.demon.co.uk with the Subject: SIGNOFF ovationp-l To subscribe the Subject line should be: SIGNON ovationp-l From maillist@risc.demon.co.uk Fri Jul 4 13:44:56 1997 Received: from relay-10.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA41678 for david ; Fri, 04 Jul 97 13:44:52 GMT Received: from punt-1.mail.demon.net by mailstore for david@pilling.demon.co.uk id 868006915:09:26406:78; Fri, 04 Jul 97 10:01:55 BST Received: from risc.demon.co.uk ([158.152.18.44]) by punt-1.mail.demon.net id bf1024883; 4 Jul 97 10:01 BST From:(Carl Cepurneek) Sender: imac@risc.demon.co.uk Date: Thu, 03 Jul 1997 10:33:03 +0100 Organization: Subject: Applet working, but... I'm particularly pleased with the !StylePal applet that makes applying / removing styles / effects so easy. But... I've been unseccessful at creating a macro to open its window from the buton bar (or a key-press) rather than having to go throught menu>applets>stylepal. I've tried something like {stylepal_openwindow()} that I saw within stylpal's library but the window opens without recognising recent changes to the state of the text where the cursor is located. Suggestions, in the form of specific instructions, are welcome. A related, more general, suggestion: Could it be possible to make particular (user configurable) often used windows attach thenselves, pane like, to the document window? I'd be inclined to have the stylepal window stuck to the right side of my active document. - And dispence with its front/back icons and scroll bars. The imposition applet is a PCUJD! Having used it for a few hours I was disappointed to discover that 1) I cannot export RTF format. 2) No facility for automatic referencing / number region. 3) No documention provided on how to go about writing your own applets. Also, I have written my own application program (not !MoleDraw) which produces chemical structures, similar to ChemDraw for the PC. My application produces files which are basically !Draw files but with application specific data added to the file. The problem I have is that, my files have there own file type (to enable direct loading into my application) and therefore are not recognised by Ovation Pro. Previous to using Ovation, I was using Impression Publisher which had no problem handling my files. I realise one way round this would be to set change to file type of my files back to Draw and then drag them into Ovation Pro, but this is not satisfactory because to edit the files I will have to change the file type back again. My question here is, is there any way of configuring Ova-P to treat my files as Draw files. For example Ova-P can handle tablemate files which, like my files, are basically Draw files with tagged data. Another question is: In my reports, I use one section of text repeatedly throughout the document. What I would like to do is set up a button macro with the relavent string. The problem is that, the string I need to insert contains both subscript, Greek Lettering and standard lettering. So far I have been unable to achieve this using macros. The only way I have found to do it so far is to save the text as a DDL file and drag it into the main text where needed. If it is not possible to create a macro to do this directly would it be possible to create a button macro that would simply insert my DDL file from disc into the main text where needed.? All of those things are correct except we do document all of the script language functions and provide some extensive examples. Version 2.45 offerd a very real improvement over whichever version I had before. The new Applets are also, in the main, a great enhancement to the system. I'm not much in to colour separations myself, but I'm sure it's great for those who are. Well done, David and Beebug. Nonetheless, we aren't quite there yet, are we? Certain bugs: (1) Draw a diagonal line Make it vertical by dragging its outline box, or editing the info palette (W=0). The line disappears. Save the file as DDL, and re-load it; the (vertical) line reappears. (2) The document window toggle size icon doesn't work after the window has been dragged (Actually, this was true in previous versions also). (3) With the grid lock enabled, draw a line. Go to path edit mode, and try to nudge the endpoint horizontally, away from the grid point. On the first nudge, the line end jumps *vertically* by one pixel (or whatever). The same applies when trying to nudge on the vertical axis. (4) Occasionally, with no apparent pattern, with spellcheck enabled by default, opening a new document from a file, results in all words being underlined in red. Turning the spelling error check off and on again fixes it, but it gives one a nasty surprise! Undesirable "features" (1) The end caps are still stuck beyond the end of lines so that snapping to the grid or any other object ends up with the endcap dangling over the edge. I mentioned this months ago, and whilst I appreciate that maybe it's hard to fix, I'm really disappointed that it's still there. My work involves writing a lot of technical specifications, and diagrams with arrows joining boxes are too numerous for this to just be a minor irritation (especially coupled with bug (3) above). Wish List (1) I asked some time ago, but no harm in repeating the request, whether it would not be a good idea to provide a "remove previous Styles/effects" checkbox on a style definition. This would cause any existing styles/effects to be cancelled when the new style is selected, a bit like the old Ovation 1 styles. (2) Please, could we have the default offsets on the "Duplicate Object" selection match that set for the grid. It is so tedious, having duplicated an object offset by 3mm when the grid is set to 10 mm. to have to go snapping it to the grid. Alternatively, but less desirable, save the duplicate object offsets with the document/default settings. (3) I know index generation has been put on the back burner, but what are the plans for it now? I really could do with it, and suspect it is a bit too complex to satisfactorily do with applets. Why are people talking about 2.46 in the maillist? Surely there's not been another release in the last two weeks? ---------------------------------------------------------------- Tony van der Hoff | E-Mail: tony@mk-net.demon.co.uk Buckinghamshire, England | WWW: ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send a message to: maillist@risc.demon.co.uk with the Subject: SIGNOFF ovationp-l To subscribe the Subject line should be: SIGNON ovationp-l From maillist@risc.demon.co.uk Fri Jul 4 13:45:55 1997 Received: from relay-10.mail.demon.net by pilling.demon.co.uk with SMTP id AA41686 for david ; Fri, 04 Jul 97 13:45:52 GMT Received: from punt-1.mail.demon.net by mailstore for david@pilling.demon.co.uk id 868007175:09:28247:48; Fri, 04 Jul 97 10:06:15 BST Received: from risc.demon.co.uk ([158.152.18.44]) by punt-1.mail.demon.net id ai1024883; 4 Jul 97 9:56 BST From:(Ray Dawson) Sender: imac@risc.demon.co.uk Date: Thu, 03 Jul 1997 10:35:09 +0100 Organization: Subject: Re: Print nag To: Subscribers to the mailing-list OVATIONP-L Reply-To: ovationp-l@risc.demon.co.uk Message-ID: <19970703.103509.52@risc.demon.co.uk> Precedence: bulk X-Posting-Date: Wed, 02 Jul 97 13:12:11 BST X-MailList: MailList v0.16 the mailing-list robot for RiscOS X-Apparently-From: X-Posting-Agent: RISC OS Newsbase 0.56 On Tue 1 Jul 97 (15:28:08 +0100), df.symes@argonet.co.uk wrote: >Whenever I try to print a document out of this version, I get a nag >window stating: >Area to be Printed is bigger than paper size and will be cropped Check your Print...Print setup window to make sure that the scale is 100% and X and Y coordinates are zero. No, the Page Up/down keys work correctly. The clicks don't for the reasons you've been told. But they could be fairly easily fixed. I can also get the embedded Artworks graphics to >show appropriately in the process colour separations. But how do I get >the spot colours in Artworks graphics to show up on the separations >for spot colours? Ah well, how can I put this... AW Spot colours won't ever work. This is because we have no mechanism for identifying an AW spot as a spot for the whole document. Although if this is going to be huge problem I might do something about it. I keep thinking that AW is on the way out anyway, I recall doing a lot of twiddling with the AW applet recently and wondering if there was much point. From:("Eason, Dave, EASONDC2") From:(D.A.Symes) >I've just installed OP Vn 2.45, and it seems great, except I have a >small problem with printing. >When I try to print a document, I get an error box saying that the page >is too large for the paper, and will be cropped. OK, lets get the bad news out of the way. Two versions of OPro have been issued for the free upgrade. 2.45 and 2.46. The difference in these is that this page crop check feature has been made less prominent in 2.46. There is a problem in that OPro and the printer may disagree by tiny amounts on what A4 etc is. 2.46 adds some margin for error. However things are not too bad, because you can twiddle one of the bits of the printchoices2 function first argument to get rid of this crop checking, and most users won't want it anyway. void printchoices2(int printbits_xor,int printbits_and,int spare, int spare); #define PRB_CROPCHECK 0x10 Enables the dbox that warns output is bigger than paper (PRN629). What this means is that if you remove 16 from the first argument of printchoices2() in !OvnPro.Autorun.!Choices the crop check should go away. If it does not then get rid of the file PSSuport from !OvnPro.Library - unless you have a PostScript printer or intend using one. I don't recall there being any template problem or problem with the button either. From:(D.A.Symes) >Regarding Ov Pro version 2.46, the recent upgrade. >Some ------ has been meddling with the Statnry Applet, and it won't play >The previous version I was using with 2.36 behaved itself. >My Stationery file inside OvationPro.!OvnPro.Applets.!Statnry.Stationery, >not only contains my ordinary OV Pro templates, but also contains a couple > of standard (Blue Icon) Directories where some less often used templates a >re stored. Ah well. We added a load file function to enable use on the Acorn NC (I am not kidding), I am guessing our applet friend replaced the filer_run below with that function. It should be a case of just putting back the line after deafault: below (file !Statnry.Library.Statnry) int statnry_entry(int entry, int subcode) { switch(entry) { case 0: osclis("filer_opendir " + statnry_path); break; default: osclis("filer_run " + statnry_path + "." + string_menu(statnry_handle,entry)); break; } return(0); } From:(Tony Stauber) >I have been using Ovation for many years, and Ovation Pro for several >months. I am disappointed that no help has been offered to what I am >sure is a simple problem. I'd like to say that, if you don't get an answer to something on this mailing list, feel free to tackle me or Ian via private email. In this case I felt that the free upgrade would probably sort things quicker than a reply. In general it's not always easy to spot what are the vital issues to folk and what are rhetorical questions. From:(D.A.Symes) >MS Word for Windows 6 has a rather amusing grammer checking facility... :-) >Obviously none of the main British Dtp/Word processors offers a similar >function. >Does anyone out there know of a third party application that will do a similar >job, that either works stand alone or interfaces with something like Impression >or Ovation Pro? What could be done fairly easily is an applet that fine tuned text. For example pulling out double spaces after full stops 8-) Spotting words that need capitalising after full stops and so on. Keep on working in this direction and you'd be on the way to a grammer checker. I think the applet wizzard once started on such a project. We'll have to get him to stick it on the web or something. From:(Carl Cepurneek) >Might there be, in that wonderful 'sometime', something like a PRM for OP? >I realise that half of hacking is figuring out where and what to hack, but >there's no sense in everyone having to invent their own wheel. Yes this would be a great idea. The problem as usual is lack of resources. Perhaps we can pencil it in for when sales pass the 20,000 unit mark. From: Richard Hallas >By the way, I've just noticed that the info palette in Path edit mode >has gone wonky. The tools and X/Y fields are overlapping the status >lines at the left. Fix is Edit the templates, open 'PathTool', icon #0 should be lined up with the window, instead of being pushed off up and to the right. Icon #0 is a large invisible icon which should enclose the area of all the icons in the tool pane.
