First, the table vanishes leaving not quite enough space for itself in column A, and a gap is also created in column B about the same size. As the text above continues to expand the gap in col. I agree. I've always thought of the Shift key being used to *shift* things, and would be happy to have that applied universally. For the sake of others who don't agree, a CMOS RAM bit could be used to allow ppl to config their own preference, in much the same way as a suggestion I once made to Acorn for a bit to switch between leafname and full path in title bars. In both cases it would have no effect on apps that didn't take notice of the bits' settings, rather like font blending now, so it would be something to be phased into the market. -- John Michael Ward --> Putting quality above quantity, hype, vested interests, money, and other pressures. When you try to apply a style/effect at the cursor and then type, for example turn on centre justification and then type, the machine freezes. This also occured when I created a new style and applied that at the cursor. You can get out of the freezing with Alt-Break and stopping Ovation. I am using Ovation Pro version 2.36 on the StrongARM and I have Acorns StrongARM patches. It seems to occur at the start of a new document. This is a repeatable error as a friend of mine with the same setup has experienced the same problem. I frequently need to run a particular find and replace more than once, but having started at the beginning of the document and got to the end the continue button has no effect - I expect to be able to start the same find again. For example in a document with two returns at the end of each paragraph, and multiple (variable - usually to fit pages in the PC word processor) returns before a heading I search for two returns and replace with one, but that doesn't remove all the redundant returns before a heading, so continue could initiate a second trawl through the document with the same find and replace strings. (This is in addition to the fact I have previously mentioned that Tab (\t) in either the find or replace string causes the function to fail, totally locking Opro.) I would also find an extra feature in Find and replace to be considerable value: viz. the ability to search or replace type specs (font, size etc) and Styles. This is a feature I frequently make use of in PageMaker at work, and is specially valuable to use ligatures to replace ffi, ffl, ff, fi, fl when not only the character but also the font needs changing. Standard Acorn fonts have the last two ligatures, but the others are only available in expert fonts. Also, has this list been silent since 8/11/96 or have I been removed from the list? A bit too much of a > coincidence? This word does appear in the dictionary on the distribution masters. I have no idea how it got there or what it means. I did the revamp of the dictionary for Ovation Pro so currently I am the chief suspect for 'adding odd words to the dictionary', but it's all a mystery to me. Peter Bond; >How do I turn off smart quotes? >I need a plain single quote as a foot sign (ie ') - I have turned off >Smart quotes in Choices Text and clicked Ok but I still get a smart >quote when I press that key :-( Err no, smart quotes on choices is concerned with what happens when you import a text file. What you want is smart quotes on the applets menu. Some versions of the smart quotes applet have a sub menu that lets you enter a single quote. I tend to use *fx138 (OS_Byte 138) for this purpose. You can do what you want to do this way. The key trick is that bytes over 128 are entered by using a zero byte as an escape. So to insert code 220, one has to do fx138,0,0 followed by fx138,0,220. Codes above 255 e.g. as used for function keys are generated by inserting codes in the range 128..255. The other part of the puzzle is to work out the codes which OPro generates when you press e.g. Ctrl+Shift B. Probably by going into Basic, enabling the OPro keyboard module, *UKeyboard_on and then PRINT GET. There are many approaches to solving this problem. You could set up OPro function keys to do most of the work, and then enter the codes for them into the keyboard buffer. You could write an OPro script file and *filer_run it. Jack Evans; >Experimenting with a jam label layout design of desired size 80mm wide by >40mm I find that the OP minimum page height seems to be 76mm - 75mm or less >brings up a 'Page height too small' message. The min page size has been made 1 inch square now. OK? (and the max about 4 metres square) When I do this job, my technique is to design one label, and then use the duplicate function to copy it over an A4 page. This gives you precise control of position - important on self adhesive labels. Anthony Hilton; >I expect to be able to start the same find again. I find that slightly insulting. I don't care if there's a smiley there. I use two spaces after a full stop because I find it aids the flow of the text. A text word wraping system should be capable of ignoring any amount of white space at the begining of a line. That way it caters far all preferences w.r.t. the number of spaces after a full stop. How about Ovation Pro freezing when you save documents - again you can use Alt-Break to get out of it, but the document hasn't been saved. Firstly, when I have tried to remove Tab rulers and effects from blocks of text I have been unable to do it. I have had to export the text into Zap, delete the text on OP and then drop it back in again. I have also experienced problems trying to move local frames of text which I have created. I don't seem to be able to move them over page boundaries. Moving pages of text around to re-order articles invariably 'crashes' the text (not the program) so that pages further on just become a jumble of characters. The above using version 2.36. Sounds more like a problem of the undo buffer being flushed when the doc is saved. Was the document double-sided or did it have embedded frames at all? A couple of bugs in this area were fixed.
